Keep working with your kids on memorizing their scripture verses. They have another week to work on them now! Next Wednesday, they will have the opportunity to recite them for their awards. We will also do the craft from this week and watch a short Christmas movie. We look forward to seeing everyone next week!

A note to Awana Parents: Your kids are doing GREAT memorizing the scripture verses for Awana so far this year! Last week they were told that if this coming Wednesday they could recite without prompting all 3 verses that we have learned so far that they would earn a special reward. Each family should have received a verse sheet at the beginning of the year, but in case you don't have one or have misplaced it, the verses will be included here so that you can help your kids practice for Wednesday. If you do not have a verse sheet, copies are available on the Awana bulletin board at the church. We encourage you to review the verses with your kids to help them prepare for Wednesday night. Parents, you also might want to work on memorizing them because at the end of the year we are going to have a kids vs. parents/leaders quiz to see who memorized better. 😉

Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork.
Deuteronomy 6:4 - Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

See you at 6:30!

Hey everyone,

There will be a leader meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall to discuss ideas on exactly what Wednesday nights will look like that will make the time meaningful for the kids and maintainable for our leaders going forward.

***Important details about Parent/Leader meeting 8/24***

As each year passes, it gets more challenging to just roll into another year of Awana Club. Back in the day before cell phones and travel ball, our club flourished with high numbers of kids and adults. As the years went by and distractions increased, attendance dropped for both, kids and adults. At one point we had just the right amount of kids for the amount of volunteers we had. But to be honest, our club has always been changing and adapting to whatever situation we were in. Year after year we tried to plan a year full of meaningful lessons, fun games/prizes for the kids and events for the whole family to enjoy, at the same time strengthening their Biblical foundation for life.

The longevity and consistency of that kind of effort from the volunteers that show up each night can only be attributed to one thing... we truly care about the eternal well being of the FAMILIES in our community!

There are more things coming at us that are detrimental to both kids and parents these days than ever before. Whether it's just distractions and a lack of family time or down right perverse false teaching that are driving a generation to a point where they don't know what is real and true anymore!

I assure you, God's Word is truth! John 17:17

If we allow ourselves, our kids, and our families to build a foundation on anything else other than the truth that is God's Word and a personal relationship with Jesus...than anything goes...we can make up our own rules as we go...we essentially get to become our own gods...AND WE ARE SEEING THE CONSEQUENCES OF THAT IN CULTURE RIGHT NOW!

All of us at FBC are committed to following Jesus, His Word and sharing that with everyone we can. John 14:6

Having said all that, it is clear that our Awana Club is at a crossroads that it has been heading toward for a while now. With myself not able to be there in person this past club year, declining attendance of both kids and leaders, we need to have a parent and leader meeting before planning another year of Awana Club.

***The meeting for all leaders and parents will be this Sunday 8/24 at 5pm in the Fellowship Hall with pizza and pop provided. Please RSVP to Cal Smith (319) 404-4531

All of us together need to figure out:
1.) Is our club going to continue?
2.) Do we have parents that want to volunteer?
3.) Does our club need to change and what would that look like? (less leaders=hard to keep going like normal)
4.) Any ideas to move forward?

So please join us for a VERY IMPORTANT meeting.
