In celebration of World Environment Day, we participated in the global Presentation Eco-Justice initiative by planting seeds of hope for the future to serve as a legacy of Nano Nagle and ourselves. 🌎🌳 Presentation communities around the world are working toward a shared goal of planting 2,500 trees in honor of 250 years of the founding of the Presentation Sisters.

Nano’s lantern brought light into dark places, and today we continue that mission by caring for our common home and helping create a future full of light and life. As Presentation Sisters, associates and employees gathered at Mount Loretto to plant a tree, we were reminded that caring for people and caring for Earth go hand in hand.

As we celebrate 250 years of the Sisters of the Presentation, we give thanks for the enduring legacy of Nano Nagle. With kindness, courage and everyday acts of justice, Nano founded the congregation guided by her call to serve through “not words, but deeds.”

Today, as Presentation people in North America, we continue to shine Nano’s light through shared prayer and compassionate action — reaching out in love and service to our neighbors and a world in need.

Across our communities, this anniversary year continues to inspire meaningful acts of care for both people and the earth. In New York, the congregation held a prayer service commemorating the partnership in the preservation of 13.5 acres of land to help protect a vital secondary water source for the City of Newburgh. In North Dakota, sisters, associates and friends gathered to plant trees as part of the worldwide Presentation family’s commitment to plant 2,500 trees in honor of this milestone anniversary. These efforts reflect our ongoing call to foster hope, healing and justice for generations to come.

The Presentation Sisters and associates welcomed 10 new associates during a joyful commitment ceremony on Saturday, May 16 at Mount Loretto. The new associates pledged to prayerfully support and live out their vocation to the Presentation charism and mission. As part of their commitment journey, the new associates reflected on the ways Nano Nagle’s spirit and the Presentation mission have shaped and inspired their lives.

One associate shares, “Over the past year, I have learned about and experienced the life and contributions of Nano Nagle. Her work educating the poor in Cork, Ireland and her devotion to helping those in need often at night earning her the name "The Lady of the Lantern" has inspired me … Her example has challenged me to be more intentional in how I live, how I serve and how I respond to others. Becoming an associate feels like a meaningful next step. It offers a way to live out my values through service with others who share these same commitments.”

Another shared, “My desire to become an associate is rooted in a wish to formalize my commitment to the values of hospitality, hope and justice — principles I strive to embody in my instruction every day, both in my classroom and in the community. Nano Nagle’s legacy of using education as a transformative tool for empowerment deeply inspires me. Her courageous spirit of “going one step further” to serve the marginalized perfectly aligns with my professional mission to advocate for the vulnerable. It is my greatest wish to walk alongside the sisters and fellow associates as we foster a more compassionate world, grounded in a shared belief that education is a light that can dispel even the greatest darkness. This is what compels me.”

The Sisters of the Presentation are pleased to announce a lead philanthropic investment to support the launch of Hope Family Housing, an innovative new initiative in New Orleans, Louisiana, designed to expand access to long-term, stable housing for families and seniors at risk of housing instability.

“Our congregation is called to respond to the needs of our time with compassion and courage,” said Sister Carmen Hernandez, congregational leader of the Sisters of the Presentation. “Supporting Hope Family Housing is a natural extension of our mission to uphold the dignity of every person and to stand with those seeking stability and hope. We are honored to help bring this vision to life.”
