Iâve been thinking a lot lately about the way we read the Bible.
We often begin by asking, âWhat does this mean for me?â And while application is important, Iâm becoming increasingly convinced that there is a question we need to ask first:
What does this reveal about God?
The Bible begins, âIn the beginning, GodâŚâ (Genesis 1:1), and near its end we read, âBehold, the dwelling place of God is with manâ (Revelation 21:3).
Everything in between tells one unfolding story.
We are part of that story, but we are not the main character. God is.
Thatâs the idea behind a new series Iâm beginning:
THE BIG PICTURE
God at the Center from Genesis to Revelation
Weâre going to step back and look at the whole picture of Scripture, then begin moving closer, tracing the major movements, promises, covenants, and theological threads that connect Genesis to Revelation. Through it all, weâll keep coming back to one question:
What does this reveal about God?
Iâll admit, taking on something this big is a little overwhelming. Scripture is vast, its theology is deep, and I have so much left to learn. I also canât promise a particular timeline. I donât want to rush through Godâs Word simply to keep a schedule. I want to study carefully and move through this in Godâs time, not mine.
So please pray for me as I begin. Pray that Iâll handle Scripture faithfully, remain teachable, and keep the focus where it belongs: on Him.
And Iâd love for you to join me. Open your Bible with me. Ask questions. Share connections I may have missed. Letâs discover the big picture together.
My prayer is that when we reach the end, we wonât simply know the Bible better.
We will know its Author better.
The introductory blog is available now. I hope youâll read it and join me for The Big Picture.
We often open Scripture asking questions like, âWhat does this mean for me?â âWhat am I supposed to do?â or âHow does this apply to my life?â Those are important questions, but Iâm becoming convinced that they shouldnât be our first questions. Before we ask what the Bible says about u...
