y. Since its inception in 1708, the Church of the Brethren has been committed to peace. It works to live out the tradition as a historic peace church by seeking to become a living peace church, through the many issues of peace and justice. After World War I, the Church of the Brethren, along with the Quakers and Mennonites began to be known as the "Historic Peace Church."
