"St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997) who, by age 12 had discerned a vocation to the religious life and at 18, joined the Sisters of Loreto as a missionary to India. In 1946, she received a 'call within a call' dedicated to ministering to 'the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the blind, the lepers, and all people who feel unwanted.' By the time of her death, the Missionaries of Charity had grown to 4,000 sisters operating 610 missions in 123 countries." (9/5 The Morning Offering)

"St. Rosalia (1130-1166) was born to a wealthy and noble Norman family. From a young age Rosalia was strongly drawn to Christ, which caused her to leave her life of wealth and comfort to follow Him in complete solitude as a hermitess, where she died at a young age. Centuries later when a plague was ravaging Palermo, her relics where found by a hunter. Rosalia instructed him to carry her relics three times around the city, after which time, the plague ended." " Today the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Gregory the Great (540-604), who devoted his life to God and the Church, serving with humility that would become one of the hallmarks of his papacy. Around the age of 30 he left public life (he came from a very wealthy background) to become a monk. Twenty years later he was called to serve the Church as pope. As pope, Gregory cared for the poor, strengthened the Church's liturgical life, and sent missionaries to bring the Gospel to England." (9/3 Zeale)

"During the French Revolution, the Carmelite Massacre of 1792 saw 200 religious figures brutally murdered for refusing a government-mandated schismatic oath. They were all later beatified by Pope Pius XI. The Franciscan Order honors their memory annually with dedicated services. (9/2 uCatholic)

"St. Giles (7th c.) was born to a wealthy and noble family. He devoted his life to the things of God and grew in sanctity, but found that his material and spiritual riches drew unwanted praise and attention. To escape prestige, he sold all of his possessions, gave his wealth to the poor, and moved away to Gaul (present day France) to live in solitude in the wilderness as a cave-dwelling hermit. He is the patron saint of lepers, hermits, cripples, epileptics, cancer patients, the mentally ill, the disabled, and the poor. (9/1 Your Morning Offering)

"St. Raymond Nonnatus' (1200-1240), life was saved by cesarean section after his mother died in childbirth. 'Nonnatus' means 'one not born.' He was a pious child drawn to the religious life, but his father had plans for him to serve in the royal court." Eventually Raymond's way won. He joined the Mercedarian order. He ransomed Christian slaves from their Muslim captors. He was a miracle-worker both before and after his death. (8/31 Your Morning Offering)

"St. Fiacre(d. 670 A.D.) is the patron saint of gardeners, florists and taxi drivers. St. Fiacre was born in Ireland and was raised from childhood in an Irish monastery. He lived a life of great mortification in prayer, fasting, vigils, and manual labor in his garden. He also performed many miracles." (8/30 Morning Offering)
