"St. Bona of Pisa (1156-1207) experienced visions at a young age which led her into an ascetical life of penance and fasting. She eventually became fond of making pilgrimages. She led a large group along the Way of St. James(Santiago de Compostela), a 1000 mile journey. She made this journey (as a tour guide) nine times during her life; she became ill during the 10th trip and died upon her return." (5/29 Morning Offering)

"St. Bernard of Montjoux (923-1008), was born to a wealthy and noble family in present day France and Switzerland. As an adult he was determined to give his life in service to the Church. He became a priest and spent more than 4 decades doing missionary work in the Alps. He built schools and churches, and is especially known for aiding travelers and skiers. He is known as the patron saint of skiers and for thembreed of dogs named after him." (5/28 Morning Offering)

"St. Augustine of Canturbury (d. 605) was a monk and abbot in Rome, Italy when he was sent by Pope St. Gregory the Great with 40 brother monks, to evangelize the British Isles in 597. It was not without trial and hardship. Many were attached their Celtic customs. The Pope suggested that they purify, rather than destroy the pagan temples and customs, transforming them into Christian feasts. St. Augustine is called the Apostle of the English." (5/27 uCatholic)

" St. Philip Neri (1515-1595), the joyful Italian priest known as the 'Apostle of Rome,' devoted his life to serving the poor, evangelizing through humor and friendship, and the founding of the Congregation of the Oratory. Philip was not ordained until he was 36 years old. He carried on his mission, but spent most of his time in the confessional, remaining there from dawn until dusk." He died of natural causes. "St. Bede (672-735), also known as Venerable Bede, at the age of 7, went to a Benedictine monastery to be educated. He discerned a vocation to the monastic life, and devoted himself to prayer and the study of Sacred Scripture and Church history. After being ordained at age 30, he went on to be a prolific writer and teacher. His writings were said to be filled with heavenly wisdom. After his death, he was named a Doctor of the Church." "The title 'Mother of the Church' was formally bestowed on Our Lady by Pope Paul VI, and she was given a liturgical memorial under this title by Pope Francis. This feast is celebrated on the Monday following Pentecost, highlighting the fact that the Mother of God was praying alongside spiritual sons, the Apostles, at the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon them at Pentecost." (5/25 Morning Offering)

"St. John Baptist de Rossi (1698-1764) was known as the 'Saint Who Lived Among Rome's Forgotten.' The story of this saint reminds us that holiness is not measured by grandeur but by love, service, and dedication to the weakest among us." (5/23 Catholic Connect)

"Today the Church celebrates the feast of St. Rita of Cascia (1381-1457), a patroness of mothers, difficult marriages, and of impossible causes. After a turbulent marriage and feuding family issues, Rita was eventually admitted into the Augustinian convent. She told the Lord that she wanted to share in a piece of his passion. She received on her forehead a wound, like a stigmata, as one thorn in the crown of Jesus. She cared diligently for the elderly sisters, and died of tuberculosis at age 70." (5/22 Zeale)
