This is a friendly reminder of the Harvest Baptist Association Annual Meeting on Sunday, October 11, from 5:00–7:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Decatur.

Our gathering is open to anyone member of a church within our association. No registration is needed.

Dinner begins at 5 pm (free of charge).

Has your church been looking for a creative way to engage families within your community? Have you wrestled with new ways to partner with your local school district, administrators, and teachers?

I would love to invite you to join us for lunch on Thursday October 15th as discuss taking bible-based character education to public school students at no cost to families.

As usual, lunch is provided by the association. We will meet at the association office, eat at noon, and be wrapped up by 1 pm.

This would be a great week to bring your children's, youth, or associate pastor. Heck, bring your spouse and call it a date!

Often times I try to be at church before anyone else arrives so that I can pray over the pews /seats. My prayer is that those who will fill these these seats would hear from the one true God today. I pray that His message would pierce the hearts of His people. I pray that they would leave this place differently than which they came in today because they have wrestled with the God that has called them by name to repentance.

Dear Pastor and Church Family,

I want to personally invite you and the members of your church to join us for the Harvest Baptist Association Annual Meeting on Sunday, October 11, from 5:00–7:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Decatur.

One of the things I appreciate most about our association is the opportunity we have to come together as churches. Our annual meeting is one of those opportunities. It gives us a chance to fellowship with one another, celebrate what God has been doing through our churches, hear what is happening across our association, and look together toward what God has in store for the coming year.

We will begin the evening with free dinner at 5:00 PM, followed by a time of corporate worship, team reports, introductions of ministry partners, and a short business session.

We will also have several important items to discuss and vote on during our business session, including:

• A couple of proposed updates to our Constitution and By-Laws
• Nominations for new Executive Team members
• The proposed 2027 Association Budget
• 2027 Ministry Vision Casting as we look toward the year ahead

But honestly, the business is only part of why I hope you will come.

I really want to see our churches represented. That means this meeting is NOT just for pastors!

This meeting is open to any member of a church associated with Harvest Baptist Association. Please don’t feel like this is something only pastors or church leadership need to attend. Bring your people! Bring your deacons, Sunday School teachers, ministry leaders, volunteers, and church members. I would love to see us fill the room with people from churches all across our association.

We are stronger when we know one another, pray for one another, encourage one another, and serve alongside one another. Our association exists to help our churches fulfill the mission God has given us, and our annual meeting is a great opportunity to remind ourselves that we really are in this together.

I am looking forward to spending the evening with you, worshiping together, hearing what God is doing in our churches, and talking about where we believe He is leading us in 2027.

Please make plans to be with us on October 11, and encourage as many people from your church as possible to come. I truly hope to see you there!

Thank you to everyone who has reached out about our team in Athens. Fortunately all of our team is safe at this time.

We were getting ready on Friday morning when the explosion happened. The apartment that was destroyed was only a few blocks from our apartment and we heard and felt the explosion as it happened.

This is a very popular neighborhood at the base of the Acropolis in the heart of the city. The streets are very narrow and can be challenging to navigate.

Please pray for the families of those that lost their lives. One of the couples were newlyweds on their honeymoon. They were scheduled to checkout of the Airbnb about two hours after the explosion. 

Our team is beginning our journey home later this evening and should arrive in the metro around noon on Monday.

Today marked our final day of ministry in Greece. As we wrapped up we did so with a trip to the biblical city of Corinth. We walked the ancient city streets and reflected at several historical places. We crossed the Corinth canal (eat your heart out Panama canal, this one was dug by hand). We visited the southern port shore of Kenchreae. This is where the Apostle Paul left Greece to travel back to Ephesus & Syria. The remains of a church still sit at the shore line. This is the church that Phoebe served as a deaconess.

We then traveled up to Corinth and walked the ancient pathways. The Apostle Paul spent 18 months here teaching and ministering to the people. It was here that Paul was brought before the Bema (the judgement seat in the Roman Forum, a large platform where the accused would stand in front of the people) as he was accused of persuading people to worship God in ways contrary to Jewish and Roman law.

Dave Woodbury and I stood in the very spot that Paul stood on trial. Read Acts 18.

The city is filled with rich biblical history and yet today it’s as dark and lost as when Paul ministered here. This is a place that I would love to bring each of our pastors. Seeing the land and understanding the cultural context of scripture adds a depth that is difficult to explain. Being here truly makes the scriptures come alive.

Today was much cooler (weather wise) and rainy. But that being said it was a VERY productive day of ministry.

We visited another town square where we purposely engaged people along the streets, in the park, and at a local coffee shop. We engaged in many conversations and was allowed to pray with quite a few people. A shop owner named Harris allowed us to seek shelter from the rain inside of his store. He the 3rd generation from his family that has owned and operated his shop. We had a great conversation and before we left I asked if he would allow us to pray for him. This is incredibly UNCOMMON in his culture but sparked his curiosity. He agreed so we prayed for he and his family.

I have no doubt a seed was planted today. While I have no idea if I will ever know the results of that seed being planted, I know that we did all that Christ has asked us to do. We are called to be vessel, everything else is up to Christ.

For those of you who have been praying for our mission team, we have made it to Athens and finally settled into our apartment. Tomorrow we cover orientation with our partners on the field and then teaching time at the Acropolis and Mars Hill and meeting with a local church planter.

These past 2 weeks I’ve had the privilege of filling the pulpit at First Baptist Church in Alvord. As a special treat I get to engage the children during a special time in the service. These kids are engaging, curious, and at times down right funny!

The church has been welcoming and gracious. Please join me I praying for them as we begin a season of transition as they prepare to eventually call a new pastor.

Well, I didn’t get any pictures today while I was out in the field. I’m not a very good juggler so between greeting people, giving the children’s sermon, preaching to congregation, and meeting with leadership I forgot to take any pictures of myself or the church.

I wonder if the Apostle Paul had that same struggle? Maybe in Ephesus as he stood in the amphitheater while on trial. 😅

It was my honor to fill the pulpit at FBC Alvord this morning during their time of transition. What a great church filled with people who love the Lord, their community, and their church.
