Blessed Samhain! 🎃 As the final harvest comes to an end and the nights grow longer, we enter a season long associated with the ancestors, the spirits, and the mysteries that lie beyond the visible world.

Did you know that the carved pumpkin, now an unmistakable symbol of this time of year, has a history rooted in Irish folklore? Long before pumpkins became part of Halloween celebrations, people in Ireland carved faces into turnips and other root vegetables to create lanterns known as jack-o'-lanterns. These were associated with old beliefs about wandering spirits and the need to protect the living during this liminal time of year. With Irish immigration to America, pumpkins gradually replaced turnips, giving rise to the familiar lanterns we know today.

Yet the lantern carries a meaning that reaches beyond its familiar appearance. Its light, held within the darkness, reminds us of the connection between the worlds, the presence of those who came before us, and the enduring nature of remembrance.

This Samhain, as you light your lantern, take a moment to honor the Ancestors and the generations whose lives made our own possible. May their memory continue to shine through the darkness! 🕯️✨

An interesting reflection on the bear as the animal of the Mabon season, written by Rt. Rev. Nuhmen Delos, head of the Correllian Temple of the Eternal Wheel/Templo de la Rueda eterna!

🇪🇸/🇺🇸 Hoy, 23 de septiembre, celebramos Mabon, el equinoccio de otoño. La naturaleza comienza a desprenderse de todo aquello que ya no necesita y el paisaje cambia de color mientras nos adentramos lentamente en la oscuridad. Los frutos están maduros, las semillas esperan bajo la tierra y los bosques se preparan para el invierno. Es un tiempo para dar las gracias por lo vivido, recoger nuestra cosecha y aceptar que cada final contiene también el comienzo de algo nuevo. 🍁

El oso, animal asociado a la temporada de Mabon, nos guía hacia ese movimiento de recogimiento. Fuerte y paciente, recorre el bosque mientras se prepara para la llegada del invierno, acumulando alimento y buscando un lugar donde refugiarse. Su presencia nos recuerda que recogernos no significa desaparecer, sino volver a nuestro propio refugio para escuchar qué necesitamos. Este es un momento propicio para cerrar ciclos, ralentizar el ritmo, conservar nuestra energía y recordar que no todo crecimiento ocurre hacia fuera: a veces también necesitamos crecer hacia dentro.

Today, September 23, we celebrate Mabon, the autumn equinox. Nature begins to shed everything it no longer needs, and the landscape changes color as we slowly move into the darkness. The fruits are ripe, the seeds lie waiting beneath the earth, and the forests prepare for winter. It is a time to give thanks for all that we have experienced, gather our harvest, and accept that every ending also contains the beginning of something new. 🍁

The bear, an animal associated with the season of Mabon, guides us into this time of retreat and reflection. Strong and patient, it moves through the forest as it prepares for the arrival of winter, gathering food and seeking out a place to rest. Its presence reminds us that retreating does not mean disappearing, but returning to our own sanctuary to listen to what we need. This is a time to close cycles, slow down, conserve our energy, and remember that not all growth happens outwardly: sometimes, we need to grow inward as well.

Happy Mabon! 🍎🍂 Today, September 23, we celebrate the Autumn Equinox, a turning point where light and darkness meet in perfect balance. The harvest is gathered, the leaves begin to change, and the Earth slowly prepares for the quiet months ahead.

Mabon reminds us that life is made of cycles. There are seasons for planting, seasons for growing, seasons for harvesting, and seasons for resting. We cannot hold on to every chapter forever, and we aren't meant to. Sometimes, the most meaningful act of gratitude is simply to recognize what a season has given us before allowing it to pass.

As you welcome the autumn season, take a moment to honor your own harvest. What have you learned? What have you created? What parts of yourself have grown stronger? Celebrate them, and then make peace with whatever you are ready to leave behind. There is wisdom in knowing when to hold on and when to let go.

The circle has turned to equal time,
Harvest our fruits as we climb,
Give thanks for our blessings as we take it in,
Honor deity always is our win.

The harvest moon shines it might,
Dance with gratitude in its light,
The fruits of our labor are hard won,
We give thanks to the rain and sun.

Equal day, Equal night,
We must do what is right,
The circle turns from summer to fall,
As always we answer to nature's call.

The wolf howls at the moon so bright,
We honor the earth in sacred rite,
Giving thanks for our abundant life,
Through the chaos and strife.

We Harvest for the winter time,
Gathering together without rhyme,
Giving thanks for all we receive,
Thankful for all that we will achieve

The simplest way to make use of herbs is to use the fresh plant in a room or on your person. The quality of the plant will affect the vibration of whoever or whatever is around it. An example of this practice is the use of flowers at weddings. Though people are less conscious of it than they were a generation or two ago, the kinds of flowers commonly favored for weddings have specific metaphysical purposes. Roses, for example, which have always symbolized both romantic and divine love, or orange blossoms, which symbolize emotional openness and harmony. The use of these flowers effects the vibration of the energy of the event, coloring it with these qualities. Certain kinds of flowers are traditionally favored for funerals for the same reason.
