MORNING PRAYER
MAY 24, 2026
PENTECOST

Grace to you, and peace, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

PRELUDE “Come Lord Jesus, Send Us Your Spirit”
https://youtu.be/7Nl8TMRsE6E

OPENING PRAYER
Inflaming Fire, Source of our courage,
Inflowing Grace, Source of our healing,
Inflowing Joy, Source of our outgoing love,
Holy Spirit we worship you.

O God, who enters our lives as both flesh and spirit,
we approach you with the liberty of the richly blessed.
Enlighten our minds to perceive you,
and enlarge our capacity to receive you,
that being together in one place on this day of Pentecost
may see us possessed by that spirit of renewal
which makes everything young again.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia! Amen!

PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION
O Spirit of God,
source of all wisdom and understanding,
giver of life and our inspiration,
hear us now as we pray.
Loosen our tongues, transform our faltering words
and give voice to the unspoken desires of our hearts,
that our prayers may be worthy to be heard.

O God of power,
you have sent your Holy Spirit
to fill your Church with your own breath.
Grant to your preachers sincere speech to proclaim your Word
not with words of flattery and popular wisdom,
but with the power of your Spirit,
so that everyone may hear in their own language.
Empower your church that the cause of Christ may prosper
here in our small corner of the world
and in all the other corners we will never see.
Revive us again; set tongues of flame dancing among us,
that your people may rejoice in you,
and your name may again be honored.

O God of justice,
may your cleansing Spirit blow across our land.
Give health and grace to those who make and administer our laws.
Bless our farms and industries
and inspire us to world honestly and heartily
that there may be enough and to spare for everyone.
When we are tempted to grasp our possessions too tightly,
help us to remember that those who store up their treasure here on earth,
may find that moths have destroyed and rust consumed,
and storms blown away the rest.
Teach all of us to be humble, temperate, and gracious,
keeping our trust firmly planted in you, and not in our possessions.
In the times when we fear we have too little,
open our hands to share what we have with those who have even less.

O God of life,
it is your breath that sustains us,
and your Spirit that gives us life.
Grant healing and strength to those who look to you
for release from their pain and suffering.
Remember the lonely and neglected,
especially the ones we have forgotten or never knew.
Surround and protect our children and grandchildren,
our parents and grandparents, our brothers and sisters,
and all the members of our family,
both the one we were born into
and the one we have chosen for ourselves.
And grant us, each in our own time,
a place with your saints in glory.

O God of power and might,
at the feast of Pentecost
you sent your Holy Spirit to the disciples,
filling them with joy and boldness
to preach the gospel;
empower us with that same Spirit
to witness to your redeeming love
and draw all people to you.
This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord
who taught us to pray together saying:
Our Father . . .

A four-year-old Catholic boy was playing with a four-year-old Protestant girl in a plastic wading pool in the backyard. They splashed a lot of water on each other; their clothes were soaking wet, so they decided to take off the wet clothes.
The little boy looked at the little girl and said, “Golly, I didn’t know there was that much difference between Catholics and Protestants.”

At the presence of God, we rejoice:
glorifying the One who is Parent of all orphans.
In the presence of Jesus Christ, we listen:
to the Voice who calls us to humbly serve others.

making God's love known to the world-forsaken in our midst.

PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION
Eternal God,
to whom has ascended our Lord Jesus Christ,
head of the church in heaven and earth,
hear our prayers for the church, the world,
and the people you have charged us to love.

God of all life,
you have planted your church,
a tree of life in the midst of the world.
Keep strong your planting,
preserving every branch from any blight of unbelief or hypocrisy,
from barrenness and withering.
Protect it from mockery and from wicked hands
that would break it down.
Prune it of deadwood and make it fruitful in all good works,
in union with the root and trunk of the tree,
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Righteous God,
you rule the nations.
On this Memorial Day we remember before you
those who risked themselves in battle for their country.
We give thanks for those who paid the price
for the freedoms we enjoy,
whether they gave of their youth, their health, or their lives.
Guard those who continue to guard our national interests.
Keep them from hate that hardens,
or from scorekeeping with human lives.
Though they train for war, let them live for peace,
as eager for agreement as for victory.
Never let their duty separate them
from loyalty to your Son, Jesus Christ.

Father of all mercies,
continue the healing ministry of Jesus among the sick.
Bring comfort to our bodies as well as to our souls,
ease the pain of our minds and hearts as well as our bodies,
bring peace to our whole beings.
Bless every person with healing gifts,
those who counsel the addicted and confused,
those who pray with the doubting and the lost.
And at our end, bring us to the place of rest
you have prepared for all saints.

Almighty God,
your blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples
that they might be one, as you and he are one.
Grant that your church,
being bound together in love and obedience to you,
may be united in one body by the one Spirit,
that the world may believe in him whom you have sent,
your son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who taught us to pray together saying:
Our Father . . .

I am passing this on to you because it definitely worked for me today, and we all could probably use more calm in our lives. Some doctor on television this morning said that the way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started.
So I looked around my house to see things I'd started and hadn't finished and, before leaving the house this morning I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of shhhardonay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of vocka, a pockage of Prunglies, tha marinder of botl of Prozic and Valum pscriptins, the res of the Chesescke and a box a chocolets.
