As the church prepares to remember the Ascension of Our Lord, we recall this Sunday that he promises that he will not leave us orphans.

Jesus meets our questions and our troubled hearts with a promise: he is the way, the truth, and the life. Even in the face of uncertainty or suffering, we are not left alone. We are being drawn into the very life of God. We pray for the grace to know him more deeply, and to follow where he leads, trusting that his way is the path to life.

Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgments, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Savior. Amen.

"One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”

This Sunday will be the fourth Sunday in Lent. Continuing the Lenten theme of moving from the darkness into the light, this week's Gospel passage will focus on the healing of a man born blind. The scripture readings will include:

•1 Samuel 16:1-13
•Psalm 23
•Ephesians 5:8-14
•John 9:1-41

(All texts can be read online here: http://lectionarypage.net/YearA_RCL/Lent/ALent4_RCL.html)

The Collect: Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

This Sunday, as we move into the second week of Lent, we will consider one of the Bible's most quoted passages: Jesus's conversation with Nicodemus, which not only contains the verse John 3:16 -- the reference that is so often painted on signs at athletic events -- but is also the reading from which we get the phrase "born again."

The scriptures for the week:

Genesis 12:1-4a
Psalm 121
Romans 4:1-5, 13-17
John 3:1-17

The collect for the week: "O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen."

All are welcome.
