Heritage exists because people chose to make it come alive.

The restoration of the Church of the Purification. The prayer gardens. The warm cottages are ready to welcome guests as they arrive. The chef-prepared meals. The trails that wind through 200 acres of Georgia pine. None of that sustains itself.

Behind every retreat weekend is the generosity of donors who believe that sacred places still matter.

If Heritage has impacted your life, your support helps make that possible for the next person. And if you simply believe the world needs places where people can rest, pray and encounter beauty, this is your invitation to be part of it.

Every gift, of any size, goes directly toward maintaining and expanding the Heritage mission.

Give at heritagega.org/support-us. And if you know someone who shares this belief, share this post with them.

The Church of the Purification was built in 1883 by Georgia's first Catholic congregation. It went quiet for generations. And then, not so long ago, it came back. Today it stands restored to its original beauty, tall sash windows, the same bell in the tower, the same light falling through the same glass. The Archdiocese of Atlanta designated it a pilgrimage site for the Year of Jubilee. People travel here specifically to pray in this space. To sit in a pew where someone sat hundreds of years ago and need exactly what they needed.

There's a particular grace in a place that has held that much prayer. Whether you're planning a pilgrimage, a personal retreat, or simply want to visit, Heritage is open to receive you.

Betsy Orr built Heritage around the need to be free of distractions and the busyness of daily life. She knew, because she needed it.

Heritage is for the person who is carrying something they've been carrying for too long. The one who has forgotten what silence feels like. The one who is faithful and longs to be closer to God. The one who is searching and doesn’t have a word for their desire.

Heritage was created to offer what so many people quietly need: a place to step away, breathe deeply, and encounter God in the stillness. Over the past several years, thousands of guests have found that kind of rest here—walking the grounds, staying in the cottages, praying in silence, and rediscovering peace. Betsy’s story is part of what makes Heritage what it is today, and it continues to shape the mission of this sacred place.

May at Heritage is wrapping up. Before it does, we want to share something.

To everyone who came this month, thank you for trusting us. Time is the thing people are most protective of, and the fact that you chose to spend some of it here means more than we can say. To our Ministry & Service ambassadors, staff, and volunteers, thank you for the care you bring to every detail. The guests feel it, even if they don't always have the words. And to our donors and mission partners, this month happened because of you. The restored church. The intentionality of our spaces. The open door.

June is coming. Corpus Christi Weekend (June 5–7) is just around the corner. There's still more to do. And there's still room for more of you, whether as guests, supporters, or people who simply want to pray for what's happening here. We're grateful.

Join us in June. Register for Corpus Christi Weekend or plan your own stay at heritagega.org.

There's something that happens when you spend a weekend focused entirely on the Eucharist, with no distractions, in a place built to welcome you.

That's what Corpus Christi Weekend at Heritage is all about. June 5–7, 2026. Three days at Heritage on our 200-acre property in rural Georgia. Mass in the historic Church of the Purification, a pilgrimage site designated for the Year of Jubilee. Prayer in the gardens as the morning settles. Meals that stretch longer than expected because no one is in a hurry. Space between it all, real space, unhurried and quiet, to actually transform you. Just the Eucharist at the center of everything, the way it was always meant to be.

If you've been carrying the weight of a busy spring and longing for something more grounded, more real, register now. We would love to have you here.

Heritage isn't like any other retreat center or destination.

It isn't a resort. It isn't a spa. It isn't a place designed to entertain you or keep you comfortable in an anti-septic numbing way.

What it is: a nature-filled retreat destination built on sacred grounds with genuine intention into every detail. The cottages are beautiful, but the point isn't the decor or bedding. It’s the naturally aesthetically pleasing colors and amenities that relax and rejuvenate you

At Heritage, you experience tranquility in nature, with thoughtful spaces designed for rest, relaxation, and spiritual renewal.

A lot of people arrive not knowing what to expect. Most of them leave saying they didn't know how much they needed Heritage. If that sounds like something you or someone you love needs, we're here with open arms and unrivaled hospitality.

There's a Heritage you never see when you visit. A side that makes everything else possible.

The cottages are quiet and ready. The meals being prepared with intention, care and thoughtfulness. The grounds maintained so that a walk in the prayer garden feels inspiring and holy. Behind every retreat is a team of people. Staff, volunteers, and Ministry & Service Ambassadors, who give their time so that guests can relax and feel rejuvenated.

This peaceful place is only possible because its people enrich it with passion and work. That's true here more than almost anywhere. If you've ever left Heritage feeling different than when you arrived, this is part of why. And if you've ever wanted to be part of what makes that happen, we'd love to have you.

Look at this picture. The truth is… We think it speaks for itself. There's silence and peace at Heritage. It's a feeling of being transformed. Like the land itself has been cultivated to hold quiet. Guests often tell us they feel at peace during the first morning. They sit down with their coffee. No notifications. No one to respond to. Just the sound of the pines, the glow of the sun peeking through, and the slow start of a day with no agenda. By the second morning, they don't want it to end.

If you've been telling yourself you need to slow down, this is what it looks like.

Georgia's first Catholic congregation didn't start in a cathedral. It started in a clearing in the woods with a handful of families who believed something was worth building here.

In 1790, English Catholic settlers arrived in what would become Taliaferro County, Georgia, and founded the state's first Catholic community, Mary Land. A log church rose from the clay. A school was established. Families settled. A history began.

The community shifted over generations. The cotton economy collapsed. The town of Sharon grew quiet. By 2001, the Church of the Purification was reduced to a station. But the land held.

In 2016, restoration began. The church was returned to its 1883 beauty. The cemeteries were tended. Pine Lodge and cottages for stays were built. The prayer gardens and Resurrection Meadow were created. And Heritage was born, not as a monument to the past, but as a living continuation of it. When you visit here, you're walking on ground that has witnessed over two centuries of faith. That changes how you walk.

Corpus Christi is the feast that says Christ chose to remain in the Holy Spirit with us. Not in an idea. Not in a memory. But truly, really, present in the Eucharist.

To celebrate that feast on ground where Catholics have gathered since 1790, in a church that has been holding this feast for generations, is something completely different than an ordinary day.

Join us June 5–7 at Heritage for Corpus Christi Weekend.

Here's what the weekend holds:
• Friday evening begins with dinner and a welcome reception as guests settle into the retreat grounds and connect with one another.
• Saturday morning, a Eucharistic Procession moves from the historic Church of the Purification to Resurrection Meadow, where Mass is celebrated with Archbishop Hartmayer. Lunch follows, then free time for quiet reflection, walking the prayer gardens, or simply resting.
• Sunday morning, overnight guests are welcome to conclude the weekend at Corpus Christi Mass in the Church of the Purification.

Everything is included, all meals from Friday dinner through the weekend, Mass with Archbishop Hartmayer, and the Eucharistic Procession.

Two stay options are available: Two nights, Friday check-in (3pm) through Sunday checkout (11am), or one night, Friday check-in (3pm) through Saturday checkout (3pm).

Spots are limited. Come join us!
