We're hosting a free public screening of Sugarcane on Sept 19th at 1pm. This award winning documentary exposes a shocking cover-up of cultural genocide perpetrated by the church and government associated with a Canadian boarding school, and illuminates the enduring love, beauty and courage of an Indigenous community. After the documentary, local experts will discuss how themes from the film intersect with local indigenous history and realities in the Central Valley. The November elections will be here before we know it. Save the date for October 18th at 7pm for the next ballot forum of Willow Avenue Mennonite Church. If you've never attended one, here's what you can expect: (1) clear explanations of what a yes or a no vote on the propositions and measures will mean, (2) discussion from a panel with different ideas about why they support or oppose the measure, and (3) that particular candidates will not be discussed or endorsed. All are welcome and invite your friends to this wonderful opportunity to become a more educated voter.
