What happens when humanity tries to build a future without God?
In Between Two Worlds, we examine the account of the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11:1–9 and discover the danger of pride, self-reliance, and the desire to control our own destiny. The people of Babel united around a common goal: to build a city and a tower, make a name for themselves, and avoid being scattered across the earth. Their plans reflected a spirit of independence from God rather than submission to His will.
This message challenges us to consider an important question: Are we building our lives around God’s purpose, or are we trying to accomplish everything in our own strength?
Even when humanity turns away from God, His intervention reveals both His authority and His mercy. We are reminded that human achievements cannot replace dependence on the Lord, and that we must be careful about the influences, partnerships, and ambitions we allow to shape our lives.
On this Pastor Appreciation Day, we also reflect on God’s provision of spiritual shepherds. Ephesians 4:11–12 teaches that God gives pastors and other ministers to equip His people for ministry and build up the body of Christ. Jeremiah 3:15 reminds us of God’s promise to provide shepherds who will lead His people with knowledge and understanding.
We give thanks for faithful shepherds who continue to stand on God’s Word, serve His people, and uphold His standard through the years. Their calling is not to build their own kingdom, but to faithfully lead people toward Christ.
In this message, we are challenged to:
Recognize the danger of pride and self-reliance.
Examine the ambitions and influences shaping our decisions.
Depend on God rather than trusting solely in human ability.
Appreciate and pray for the spiritual shepherds God has placed in our lives.
Remain faithful to God’s Word and His purpose.
As we reflect on the lessons of Babel, may we choose obedience over pride, surrender over self-will, and faithfulness over personal ambition.
