O SACRED Heart of Jesus,
filled with infinite Love,
broken by my ingratitude,

accept the consecration
that I make to Thee

Take every faculty
of my soul and body
and draw me,

to Thy Sacred Heart,

Statement of Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney on the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI:

With the priests, deacons, consecrated religious, and all of the faithful of the Diocese of Paterson, I mourn the passing of the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI. Renowned as a theologian, architect of Vatican II theology, pastor, and ultimately Successor of Peter, Benedict XVI is one of the most consequential leaders of the Church in the late twentieth and first two decades of the twenty-first centuries. Benedict’s contribution will remain a living guide to holiness as his faith inspires and his great theological works are studied.

The most impactful gift of the Petrine Ministry of Benedict XVI will ever be the unwavering witness of his lived faith and humble trust in God’s will. In his 2007 Homily for Christmas, Benedict XVI reflected: “Heaven does not belong to the geography of space, but to the geography of the heart. And the heart of God, during the Holy Night, stooped down to the stable: the humility of God is Heaven. And if we approach this humility, then we touch Heaven. Then the Earth too is made new.” Benedict XVI lifted hearts toward love of God through his faith and his humble service. Benedict XVI served as Bishop of Rome, holding fast to the confession of Peter’s faith in Jesus: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). God give him the reward of his goodness.

We commend the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, to the mercy of God, confident that the Queen of heaven, the Blessed Virgin Mary, will intercede for him and that Saint Joseph, his baptismal patron, will be his heavenly companion. Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023 at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist at 12:30 PM. All are invited to attend.

With much sorrow we announce that our Pastor, Rev. Fr. John T. Connolly, has gone home to the Lord on July 3, 2022. We pray as a parish community for the relatives and friends of our dear Pastor. Please see the press release from the Diocese indicating the visiting hours and list of services to be offered. Please join us!

The Diocese of Paterson announces the passing of Father John Connolly, pastor of Sacred Heart R.C. Church - Clifton, NJ, who died in the Lord on Sunday, July 3. Father Connolly ordained a priest in 1978, and faithfully served in priestly ministry for over forty-four years.

The Reception of the Body will be on
Friday, July 8, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in
Sacred Heart Church
Clifton and Randolph Avenues
Clifton, New Jersey 07011

The Viewing will continue until 8:00 p.m. at
Sacred Heart Church

Vespers will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on
Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in
Sacred Heart Church, Clifton

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Paterson.

Please pray for Father John’s family, the parishioners of Sacred Heart, Clifton, the priests of Paterson, and his many friends.

Ad multos annos to our Shepherd!

Twenty-five years ago, on June 28, 1997, Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn by Bishop Thomas Daily.

We pray for our Bishop today as he marks his silver jubilee as a priest!

Thank you for being our shepherd and for leading us closer each day to Christ.
