Living Insights Center

Living Insights Center We create understanding and appreciation of our world's religious and spiritual traditions as we honor and nurture the spiritual journey of each individual

The Living Insights Center welcomes each individual as a sacred being. We honor each person’s right to see Reality in whatever way he or she chooses, and we hope to support each individual’s spiritual path in every way possible. We honor all religious traditions and modern spiritual systems, and we have sanctuaries presenting a comprehensive spectrum of those traditions. Many people find their spi

ritual family and home here, and feel it’s the safest place they have ever been. Many also say this is the most sacred place they have ever been. We welcome everyone to commune, meditate, pray, read, or shop with us. Our Center points everyone to the one Source we all share, while also celebrating the diversity of humanity’s spiritual experience. We believe spirituality should bring everyone together, rather than be a cause of disagreement. God can be visualized as a clear light, and when that light shines through the prism of human consciousness it spreads into all the colors of the rainbow. Each of us has our own unique color, each color is just as much a part of the rainbow as all the others, and all the colors ultimately will return into the clear light. We aspire to present every possible way to experience transcendent states of being and connect with the Ultimate Reality, whether it be called God, Brahman, Jehovah, Adonai, Allah, the Creator, the Source, the Great Spirit, Father Sky and Mother Earth, the Goddess, nirvana, enlightenment, or something else. We have functioning sanctuaries devoted to a comprehensive spectrum of religious/spiritual traditions, and we also present nontraditional spiritual experiences (including many involving sacred sound). We offer spiritual experiences, information, insights, and other forms of support, and we offer both personal attention and a thriving community atmosphere. Our Center combines aspects of a temple, a community center, a spiritual gift shop, and a library, but perhaps most of all it’s a sanctuary and home.

Hi, everyone. Here's our schedule for September, and a few additional announcements.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Monthly Kirtans: We're thrilled to announce that Kirtan/Bhajans will return in November! The sessions will be on the first Sunday of each month, from 4:00 until 5:30, starting November 1. We'll soon send out a longer announcement describing our plans, including the new musicians.

Schedule in General: I'm still at the Center just for events or by appointment. We're getting closer to having regular hours.

Phone/Voicemail: We're converting from Spectrum to AT&T. Our voicemail system hasn't been functional since the fire, and very soon you'll be able to call our (314) 721-4455 number and reach either me or voicemail. We're sorry for the inconvenience!

Parking: The old Commerce Bank building is now being renovated to become a State Bank, so we can't use that parking lot during the day on weekdays. We're working to make our own rear parking lot usable, but free on-street parking in front of the building is still your best bet during weekdays. We'll keep you posted.

CENTER "TOURS"
By appointment

The "tours" introduce you to the Center and a number of religious/spiritual traditions and experiences in very engaging ways. They last at least two hours, and often are longer due to high interest - although we believe the Center in part is the closest thing to a museum of the world's religions in the western hemisphere, these aren't superficial museum tours. The tours need to be arranged in advance by emailing us at [email protected] (or soon by phone).

TALKING CIRCLE
Every Sunday, 12:15-2:30 pm

Our Talking Circle is a sacred gathering. Following some indigenous traditions, we pass a talking stick around the Circle twice, and only the person holding the stick may speak, unless he/she invites comments. Each participant may talk about whatever they wish, but the intention is that the Circle will be a sharing of information which informs and uplifts everyone (no politics). If one wishes to respond to something someone has said, they must wait their turn and be respectful and compassionate. We maintain the confidentiality of the Circle. It's a diverse group of wonderful people who really care about each other, and we always welcome newcomers.

TWIN HEARTS MEDITATION AND PRANIC HEALING SESSIONS
Wednesday, September 9 (the second Wednesday of the month), 6:30-8:30 pm

Participate in a powerful guided meditation, and then learn about and experience another significant healing modality. Sessions are provided by Dale Bilyeu and sometimes other advanced practitioners.

HEALING TOUCH SESSIONS
Monday, September 14 (the second Monday of the month), 6:00-8:00 pm

Learn about and experience a significant energy healing modality. Sessions are provided by Nancy Lane and often others with Healing Touch St. Louis.

"CRYSTAL SINGING BOWLS" SESSION
Saturday, September 19 (the third Saturday of the month), 2:00-4:00 pm
$20, Registration is required

Jack plays an unusually large array of crystal singing bowls (some larger than played elsewhere), tones with them in unique, impactful ways, and includes ambient keyboard, Tibetan singing bowls, a Tibetan/Nepalese gong, and a Japanese bowl. He's recently added a set of eight Tibetan bowls aligned with the chakras, and he's also introduced a gentle way to play the gong. His toning is a particularly significant part of the session. He's been providing such sessions for 25 years. Participants typically have deep meditative, visionary, and spiritual experiences. Some remember past lives. Some say it's like getting a massage of every part of their being - body, mind, and spirit. Some have come 30 times or more and say it's different every time.

UNIVERSAL SUFISM RETREAT
Saturday, September 26, 9:30 am-4:30 pm, in-person and Zoom
By Moinuddin Christopher Clarke, PhD
Prior registration required - For in-person email [email protected]; for Zoom email [email protected]
Suggested donation $40 to support the Center and the Sufi Path of Awakening (both are tax-exempt charities)

We sent out a detailed flyer on August 20, and plan to resend it later, but here are some highlights. The Retreat will be in lieu of our monthly Zikr usually held on the second Saturday of each month.

"After relaxing the body and mind and polishing the mirror of the heart, we will turn deeper within to discover our divine essence and the soul qualities which comprise our 'divine inheritance.' Then we will explore how to affirm & manifest those qualities... This is not a beginning retreat - we will be jumping right into the deep end of Reality."

Moinuddin has formally studied and been initiated in Universal Sufism, Soto Zen, Andean Shamanism, and Ashtanga Yoga. For over 40 years he's taught classes and retreats dedicated to spiritual awakening and a deeper understanding of life, one's true self, and the One Reality. He's a certified Retreat and Spiritual Guide. He's the spiritual head and lineage holder of the Sufi Path of Awakening, which is rooted in the Universal Sufism of Hazrat Inayat Khan, who brought Sufism to the West. Universal Sufism holds the esoteric essence of all religions and honors all wisdom traditions, "leading to the awakening of that Universal Truth brought by all prophets, mystics saints, sages and scriptures - There is only One Reality - God."

Swami Sankarananda has just informed us that he needs to change his schedule. The Retreat will now be on Saturday, November 21, rather than Sunday, August 26. We're also discussing the possibility that he may additionally be here the preceding Friday to offer one-on-one sessions. Details will be announced later.

Swami is very sorry for any inconvenience, and has reiterated that he's looking forward to being with us.

He will be in touch with those of you who have already registered, and will refund all payments made.

I too regret any inconvenience, and hope you'll be able to join us in November.

All the best,

Jack

An email with more detailed information will follow in a day or two

We're always deeply blessed and uplifted when Swami Sankarananda visits us, which he's done a number of times over many years. This is a very special opportunity to be in the presence of and learn from an authentic Hindu swami (ascetic and teacher). American born, his path has taken him through India and much of the United States. He literally walked all the way across the U.S. as a modern-day peace pilgrim, and he's also has taken his teachings around the country in an RV. He now resides in his Divine Grace Yoga shala (home) in Charleston, West Virginia. He still devotes much of his time to visiting people all around the country. Swami is profound, genuine, radiates true happiness, and is a wonderful teacher, a great inspiration, and a joy to be with.

Here are a few words from Swami about the Retreat:

Clear your vision. Straighten your priorities.

True peace is not created; it is discovered when we stop operating from delusion. This retreat is not an escape - it is a return to Truth.

Anchored in the traditional Yoga Ashram model, we engage in Deep Silence, Guided Teaching, and Immersive Practice to quiet the mind's distraction and rest in the Self.

The mind seeks answers. The Self is the answer. Do not settle for temporary relief. Come abide in the Silence of the Heart.
