Is Our Faith Bearing Fruit?

In this week's Gospel reflection, Father John reminds us that faith is about more than simply going through the motions. St. Mark sandwiches the story of Jesus cleansing the Temple between two encounters with a fig tree. Together, these stories challenge us to ask an important question:

What kind of fruit is our faith producing?

God calls us not only to worship Him with our words, but also to live out our faith through our actions. A fruitful faith is seen in compassion for others, generosity toward those in need, forgiveness when it is difficult, and mercy in our daily lives.

As Father John shares, discipleship is not measured by appearances or routines, but by the ways God's love becomes visible through us.

This week, take a moment to reflect:
🍃 How is God calling you to bear fruit?
❤️ Where can you show greater compassion?
🙏 Who might need your forgiveness?
🤝 How can you share God's mercy with someone today?

May our faith be alive, active, and fruitful.

From Troubled Hearts to Hearts of Confidence

Fr. John reminds us that as believers, we are called to have confidence in God and in the power of God, even while living through struggles, uncertainty, and troubled times.

Reflecting on Acts of the Apostles 15:1–2, 22–29, Fr. John speaks about how the early Christians also experienced fear, conflict, and disturbed peace of mind. They were trying to understand how to live faithfully as followers of Christ. Yet they found peace not because all their troubles disappeared, but because they came together.

They prayed together.
They discerned together.
They listened to the Holy Spirit together.

This is what transformed troubled hearts into hearts of peace and confidence.

Fr. John reminds us that this is also a model for us today. The troubles of the world are still around us, but when we gather as the People of God, we remember that the Holy Spirit is just as present with us now as with the first generation of Christians.

As the apostles said: *“It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us…”*

God’s peace is the gift we share together. Even in difficult times, we are never alone. Through prayer, community, and faith, God continues to guide His people from troubled hearts to hearts filled with confidence and peace.

Jesus told His followers:
“I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” — Matthew 10:16 🕊️

In today’s world, faith calls us to hold onto compassion, mercy, respect, and love while also being wise and thoughtful in how we navigate the challenges around us.

St. Paul understood this well. Even when surrounded by opposition, he used wisdom, courage, and discernment while remaining rooted in the hope of the Gospel.

As Christians, we are called to bring Gospel values into the real world — our homes, workplaces, schools, and communities. The world is still a work in progress, and every act of kindness, justice, forgiveness, and understanding matters.

May we continue to live with both wisdom and love. ✨

From one of Fr. John’s homilies at St. James Catholic Church ❤️

“Because Jesus is in us, we are transformed into who God created us to be.”

When we live with Christ at the center of our lives, we begin to see others with the eyes of love — our families, neighbors, coworkers, and even those who are difficult to love. Through God’s love, we learn to forgive, to welcome, to serve, and to bring hope to those who are hurting.

Love feeds the hungry.
Love welcomes the immigrant.
Love consoles those who mourn.

Through Christ, we are transformed. ✨

Father John’s reflection this Tuesday focused on Jesus’ commandment to “love one another.”

Too often we think: “I love you because you believe the right things” or “because you live the right way.” But that kind of thinking has wounded people and divided communities.

Instead, we are called to love because God loves us first. To help one another grow in wisdom, heal wounds, and see each person as a precious child of God.

Father John shared a story of a king who told his general to destroy the enemy. But when the king arrived, the city was untouched and the people were celebrating together. The general said, “You no longer have enemies — only friends.”
