Located at the northwest corner of Adams and Des Plaines Streets, Old St. Patrick’s Church is the oldest public building in the city of Chicago. Founded in 1846 as the first English-speaking parish in the city, the current church building was dedicated on Christmas Day, 1856. Old St. Patrick’s is one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

Join us for afterWORD Scripture Study on Sunday, September 13th for our weekly Sunday Readings Scripture Study!

Looking for a space to learn more about the bible and reflect on how we can apply each week’s readings to daily life? Join with fellow Old St. Pat’s members for afterWORD, a weekly scripture study rooted in Sunday readings.

Scott Harper, our OCIA leader, has developed this year’s program to appeal to all – novice and the more experienced. He’ll lead the conversation but welcomes all to “dip your toe in the water” and discuss Scripture in a synodal manner. Scott has his M.A. in systematic theology from Catholic Theological Union and a Ph.D. from University of Oxford in Religion and Science and invites all to join in this discussion.

Meet up at 625 W Adams/Fellowship Hall 2nd floor from 10:15 AM-11:15 AM, and we will encourage anyone who wants to go to the 11 am Mass to leave with enough time to get a good seat! No registration is needed so grab a cup of coffee and a donut and join us this Sunday!

You don’t have to grieve alone.

Grief hurts. Whether you’ve lost a parent, spouse, partner, sibling, family member, friend, or someone you love, the journey through loss can bring some of the most powerful and painful emotions of your life.

HealingTogether@Home is a six-week virtual grief support group offering a safe, compassionate space to share, listen, and connect with others who understand. Together, we’ll explore the many emotions and experiences of grief, discover that what you’re feeling is normal, and find comfort in knowing you don’t have to walk this journey alone.

Sometimes, it’s not about what we require, but what we release that leads us to liberation and peace.In every season, God’s grace invites us to examine our lives, search our hearts, and discern what we need to let go of so we can move forward in freedom. Sometimes, peace isn’t found in holding on—it’s found in letting go.

Letting Go and Being Held: The Contemplative Path & the Twelve Steps

Beginning September 21, join us for an eight-week at-home spiritual journey exploring the wisdom of the Twelve Steps alongside the Christian contemplative tradition. Through a daily email, you’ll receive brief reflections designed to help you prayerfully explore themes of surrender, trust, grace, honesty, change, and spiritual freedom—right within the rhythm of everyday life.

No recovery experience or knowledge of the Twelve Steps is needed. This is not a recovery program, but an invitation to discover the Twelve Steps as a deeply honest map of spiritual life.

Join a weekly Ignatian Small Group at Old St. Pat’s—a welcoming space for young adults seeking to deepen their relationship with God through prayer, reflection, faith sharing, and discernment.

Guided by experienced leaders familiar with the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola and the Christian Life Community (CLC) framework, each gathering invites you to reflect more deeply on God’s presence and movement in your life.

What an evening! ✨ Old St. Pat’s was thrilled to welcome Fr. James Martin, SJ to kick off our Fall Theology on Tap series and share the inspiration behind his new book, Work in Progress. In this humorous memoir, the New York Times bestselling author and host of The Spiritual Life podcast tells the story of his journey from busboy, dishwasher, caddy, usher, factory worker, bank teller, and “corporate tool” to, finally, a Jesuit priest. Fr. Martin shared his time, wisdom, and insights with our community, making for an engaging, thoughtful, and meaningful evening. We’re grateful to Fr. Martin and to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a wonderful gathering!

Three Takeaways from the Evening:

God gives you the consolation of loving your work by giving you your own personal affirmation, joy, and fulfillment.

It’s important to be asked, “Will this make you happy?” and to discern what will help you to answer YES to that question.

Rest and prayer are very important to maintaining a well-balanced life and preventing burnout and dissatisfaction with your job. Reflection and discernment of the good in day-to-day encounters help you find God in the small moments.
