Old St. Patrick's Church

Old St. Patrick's Church Welcome to our page! Stay connected! Our Mission: Encounter the God Who Loves You. Engage the Community Who Welcomes You. Serve the World that Needs You.

Located at the northwest corner of Adams and Des Plaines Streets, Old St. Patrick’s Church is the oldest public building in the city of Chicago. Founded in 1846 as the first English-speaking parish in the city, the current church building was dedicated on Christmas Day, 1856. Old St. Patrick’s is one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

Great news to share! Mark Pienkos, a 20 year member of Old St. Pat’s, is a deacon candidate in formation through our church.

For the last three years, Mark has been in formation to become a permanent deacon and Old St. Pat’s is sponsoring his diaconal formation. You may recognize him as a reader at Mass or his time singing in the choir. He is married, has one child, lives in West Loop and is in the banking field. Learn more about his four year journey and plans to serve in this week’s bulletin available in the Church or on our website.

Please pray and encourage Mark when you see him around Old St. Pat’s, along with the 14 others in formation for the Archdiocese of Chicago. We look forward to Mark sharing his gifts with the Old St. Pat’s community in the years to come! May God continue to bless his journey!

Today! Join us for afterWORD Scripture Study for our weekly Sunday Readings Study!

Looking for a space to learn more about the bible and reflect on how we can apply each week’s readings to daily life? Join with fellow Old St. Pat’s members for afterWORD, a weekly scripture study rooted in Sunday readings.

Scott Harper, our OCIA leader, has developed this year’s program to appeal to all – novice and the more experienced. He’ll lead the conversation but welcomes all to “dip your toe in the water” and discuss Scripture in a synodal manner. Scott has his M.A. in systematic theology from Catholic Theological Union and a Ph.D. from University of Oxford in Religion and Science and invites all to join in this discussion.

Meet up at 625 W Adams/Fellowship Hall 2nd floor from 10:15 AM-11:15 AM, and we will encourage anyone who wants to go to the 11 am Mass to leave with enough time to get a good seat! No registration is needed so grab a cup of coffee and a donut and join us this Sunday!

Courageous Conversation speaker series is back !

Join us on Sunday, June 7th at 10:30 AM for Why Conversations on Race Still Matter in Hughes Hall.

This 6th installment of the free, yearlong, bi-monthy series, sponsored by the Old St. Pat’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative Ministry (REJI), gathers the community for reflection, prayer and conversion for the cause of antiracism. A panel discussion followed by interactive small and large group discussions among all participants will be featured.

Our distinguished panelists include Jennifer Smith, PhD, LCPC, therapist, author, speaker and founder of Faithfully Aligning You Counseling and Wellness and Stephanie Gill, M.Div., Director of Financial Wellness at Lawndale Christian Development Corporation, an organization equipping families to build credit, reduce debt, grow savings, and achieve homeownership through faith-rooted, trauma-informed financial education and coaching. This panel will be moderated by Tim Corzine, REJI member since 2020, drawn by its mission and commitment to lead a movement of change in the church.

This is a free event offered in person and ask that you register in advance by visiting bit.ly/Courageous-6 . For more detail on this event please go to our website for more information, including free parking details. Questions? Vincent Guider at [email protected].

Join us for a relaxed afternoon of sunshine, good food, and meaningful connection with others who share the unique bonds of adoption and foster care.

A potluck picnic will be held on Saturday, June 6th at St. Mary of the Lake, 4220 N Sheridan Rd. (we’ll be on the lawn at the southwest corner of Buena and Sheridan) from 11 AM - 1 PM. Parking is available in the church lot on Sheridan, just north of the church, with overflow parking available on Buena and Kenmore.

Whether you’re an adoptee, foster parent, adoptive family member, or part of the extended support circle, this gathering is all about community, understanding, and celebrating our stories together. This is a casual, family-friendly event where everyone can feel seen, supported, and included. Come as you are, and bring anyone in your circle who would enjoy connecting with others on similar paths.
We look forward to sharing a meaningful and joyful summer day with you. Please register in advance using https://bit.ly/Adoption-Potluck
