Jesus is the king of all, though he does not always show himself in the way that we would want.

Do our lives reflect this awesome truth? Do we hand over every aspect of ourselves to him - the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly - or do we hold some parts back from him?

Freedom and fulfillment can only come from being in full dependence upon God. Let us bend the knee of our hearts to Jesus, Our Lord, Savior, and King.

In November, we celebrate Black Catholic History. One way to familiarize ourselves with some of the great figures in our faith is to ask for the intercession of our Black brothers and sisters who have lived lives of holiness before us.

This novena for Black Catholic History Month is a compelling aid. Check it out!

It's National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week - and for good reason. The temperature starts to dip in November, and things get much harder for our brothers and sisters on the streets.

Let this post be a springboard for us to consider the ways in which we can go help the homeless and hungry this week!

St. Elizabeth was a Hungarian princess who married a German ruler. She was greatly impacted by the life and ideals of St. Francis of Assisi and became a Third Order Franciscan. After her husband's death, she devoted herself to prayer and charitable works, like spinning wool for the poor, as depicted in this 19th-century painting.

Today's saints - one a queen, the other a Benedictine nun - show us that the pursuit of holiness can follow different paths. What's key is that we follow the Lord and do whatever he calls us to with great love. St. Margaret of Scotland and St. Gertrude the Great, pray for us!

In his message last year, Pope Francis said, "Jesus not only sides with the poor; he also shares their lot. This is a powerful lesson for his disciples in every age. This is the meaning of his observation that 'the poor you will always have with you.'"

Being true to Christ has never been easy. Jesus' words of reassurance and encouragement in today's Gospel are as relevant to us today as they were to his first followers.

The radical, selfless love that Christ offers is contrary to the ways of the world, and we should expect to face opposition if we're living it out. The Lord is in control in all circumstances!
