By now, the backpacks are filling up, the school buses are part of the morning routine, and everyone is finally settling into those new back-to-school schedules. (Or at least pretending to have it all figured out.)

September is a kind of “back to school” season for the church, too. After a summer filled with vacations, sports, family activities, and busy schedules, we’re getting back into the rhythm of worship, learning, fellowship, and growing together.

And this fall, we’re going back to school with Jesus as our teacher!

For the next seven weeks, we’ll explore a different parable, saying, or example from the life and ministry of Christ. From guests at a banquet, to tenants in a vineyard, to lessons about words and deeds, we will remember the many great, “lesson plans,” included in our gospels.

The good news? No homework. No pop quizzes. No report cards. And absolutely no need to smell like crayons. (Pick up a copy of our Bell Tower newsletter for more context on the crayon reference!)

Whether you’ve been coming to church for years, you’re getting back into the routine after a busy summer, or you’re simply curious about what Jesus actually taught, you’re invited.

And...to start things off - this Sunday, you are encouraged to show a little school spirit with your church attire!

A little rain couldn’t dampen our Outdoor Worship & Church Picnic this past Sunday (8/30/2026)! In fact, the light shower helped cool things off while everyone enjoyed a wonderful morning of worship and fellowship. A huge thank-you to our Fellowship Team for providing a scrumptious lunch and an amazing dessert table—there was something for everyone! And, of course, the kids had a great time running around, playing, and enjoying time together. We’re grateful for days like these that bring our church family together!

We will gather for worship outside at the Charles Lang Pavilion (Forest Ridge Preserve, 3800 Chagrin River Rd., across from Polo Fields in Moreland Hills) this Sunday, August 30 at 10:00 a.m. Please note that this service will not be live-streamed, so we hope you’ll join us in person for this special outdoor worship experience!

Following worship, we will enjoy a lunch of fried and baked chicken, baked beans, bean salad, pasta salad, watermelon, and dessert. The Fellowship Team hosts this annual congregational picnic. Come and bring a friend!

*Seating is picnic-bench style. If you’d be more comfortable, you’re encouraged to bring a camping chair.*

Dear Beloved People of the Ohio Episcopal Area,

Severe flooding across Central Ohio has caused widespread damage and disruption, displacing families and threatening homes and livelihoods. Our hearts are with all who have been affected.

I invite every congregation across East and West Ohio to respond with prayer and compassionate action. Please pray for those in danger, for first responders, and for all providing shelter, food, medical care, and essential assistance.

The work of recovery will require sustained cooperation. I encourage our churches to care for their neighbors, remain connected with district and conference leaders, and participate in coordinated relief efforts as opportunities arise.

No congregation or community should face this crisis alone. Through our prayers, generosity, service, and faithful partnership, may we embody Christ’s healing presence.

God of mercy and refuge, protect those in danger, comfort those who have suffered loss, and strengthen all who serve. Gather us as one body so that, through our loving action, hope may rise and communities may be restored. In Jesus Christ’s name.

Amen.
