Rock Solid Rock Solid Youth - is the Youth Ministry of The Rock Church in Centralia, IL

Rock Solid is a ministry for students in 6th - 12th grades at The Rock Church of Centralia. This program is designed to meet students where they are by teaching them God’s word on their level and helping them to understand how to apply what they learn to their lives. We engage students through media, music, messages, small groups, outreach ministries, and a little fun and games to help them grow t

heir faith in Jesus Christ. Our goal is to use this time in their lives to prepare them to go out into the world with a Rock Solid foundation in Christ.

We often think the songs we listen to are harmless entertainment, but what enters your ears quickly takes root in your heart. Scripture warns us to guard our hearts above all else, because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. When you constantly sing lyrics full of compromise, anger, or immorality, you are inviting that very spirit into your atmosphere and defiling your walk with Christ. Protect your mind, guard your gates, and fill your atmosphere with truth that honors God. What are you feeding your spirit today? (Proverbs 4:23 / Matthew 15:18)

While standing on the beach at Cape San Blas on a red-flag day, watching and hearing the raw power of the ocean as the waves crashed, Psalm 93 hit me with a whole new meaning. The water was roaring with an intensity that demands total respect, vibrating right through the ground beneath my feet.
Scripture says in Psalm 93, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring. Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty.
Standing before that massive, churning surf makes you realize how small we are, but even more so, how powerful our Creator is. As intimidating and loud as the roaring sea can be, Yahweh is infinitely mightier than any wave or storm. If the powerful ocean obeys His command, we can rest completely confident, knowing our lives are held in His hands.

Being out by the water from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM this morning was such a peaceful experience. Standing under a pitch-black sky full of stars, we even got to watch meteors streaking across the night right before the sky started to shift into early dawn and the full morning sun broke over the ocean. It brought to mind Job 9, where Scripture tells us that God alone stretches out the heavens, treads on the waves of the sea, and performs wonders that cannot be counted. Watching the sky completely transform over those two hours reminded me so much of His power and faithfulness. Just as Lamentations 3 says, His mercies are brand new every morning. The same God who speaks shooting stars into existence and names every star in the night sky is the One who brings a fresh sunrise and holds our lives in His hands.

Looking down at the beach today, it struck me how impossibly small a single grain of sand really is. Standing there, you are surrounded by billions of them stretching out as far as the eye can see, and it is easy to feel like something so tiny just gets lost in the crowd. But Scripture reminds us in Psalm 139 that God’s thoughts toward us outnumber the grains of sand. Just like He knows the exact number of hairs on our head, Yahweh knows every single grain of sand on every shoreline.
It was such a gentle reminder that we are never invisible to Him. The same God who created the vast oceans pays attention to the smallest, most intimate details of our lives. When life feels overwhelming or you feel like just one person among millions, remember that you are fully known, deeply seen, and loved by the Creator.

Standing right at the edge of the water today, as the ocean waves crashed over my feet, I felt the sand under my toes instantly begin to shift and wash away. In that exact moment, Scripture came rushing to my mind about not building your life on shifting sand.
There is a huge difference between reading about a weak foundation on a page and literally feeling the ground disappear beneath you as the tide pulls back into the sea. It made me realize how fast worldly things can pull out from under us when we try to stand on circumstances, human opinions, or temporary security.
Yahweh truly speaks to us through His creation if we take the time to pay attention. When the storms come and the waters rise, anything built on shifting sand will wash away. But when our life is anchored on the Rock of His Word, no tide can shake our foundation.

Sitting at the beach, watching and hearing the crashing waves, this verse hit me with brand new weight. You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. Psalm 89:9.
As I looked out at the sky, the sun, and the ocean, I asked Yahweh to show me His glory. But then I caught myself and realized that creation is already showing His glory every second. So I asked, Lord, show me something incredible. I prayed to see a dolphin jump, but before anything happened, my heart shifted. I told Him, even if I don’t see it, I will trust You.
Right after that moment of surrender, out in the distance, a single dolphin broke the water and jumped. Just once. I don’t believe in coincidences. Yahweh isn't just the God of the cosmos who rules the raging seas; He is the God who listens to the quiet, personal prayers of His children. He rules the ocean, and He still holds every detail of our lives. Praise Yahweh. Have a blessed and glorious day. Love you all.
