Rock Solid Youth - is the Youth Ministry of The Rock Church in Centralia, IL

Rock Solid is a ministry for students in 6th - 12th grades at The Rock Church of Centralia. This program is designed to meet students where they are by teaching them God’s word on their level and helping them to understand how to apply what they learn to their lives. We engage students through media, music, messages, small groups, outreach ministries, and a little fun and games to help them grow their faith in Jesus Christ. Our goal is to use this time in their lives to prepare them to go out into the world with a Rock Solid foundation in Christ.

Over the past few months, as I’ve read, prayed, and preached on people-pleasing, idol worship, and spiritual authority, I’ve been reminded of one of the hardest lessons in spiritual maturity: learning to stay quiet while others build a narrative about you. When Jesus stood before false accusations, He didn’t scramble to manage His reputation or lobby for people’s approval. He knew who He was, and He entrusted Himself to the Father. David wrote in Psalm 37: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light.” If you’re carrying the weight of being talked about or misrepresented: breathe. God has never needed a committee’s approval to bless your life, protect your calling, or defend your heart. Let them whisper; God is already working in the light.
Gossip only holds power over us when we’re secretly desperate for man's praise. The moment you decide that human applause isn’t your source, human criticism loses its venom. If God is your shield, you don’t need to spend your days policing what people say about you behind closed doors. Live with clean hands. Keep a tender heart. Let God be your defender.
One verse that always grounds me in this is Galatians 1:10: “Am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

Last night I preached on spiritual authority, and I started with an honest question: Have you ever felt like you’re fighting a completely losing battle against yourself? You cry at youth group, you make a real promise at the altar on Sunday, and by Tuesday night you’re right back in the same secret habit or anxiety spiral, wondering what’s wrong with you or if you’re even actually saved. If the enemy walked into the room right now, what’s your gut reaction: terror or authority? Too many believers live like they’re in a horror movie, backed into a corner by an unstoppable monster. But the Bible never paints Satan that way; he is an already-defeated trespasser who answers to the name of Jesus. Paul says in Galatians 5:1 that Christ has set us free, so stop submitting again to a yoke of slavery. The tragedy today isn't that the devil forces chains back on your neck; it’s that we walk right back over to the old pen, bow our heads, and put the collar back on because we think defeat is just our default mode.

There is a massive difference between slipping in the mud, hating it, and running to Jesus versus choosing to pitch a tent and live there. When you fall, you don’t run from God in shame. Romans 8:1 says there is zero condemnation for those in Christ Jesus; you run straight to Him, get cleansed, and stand back up. Grace isn’t an excuse to stay in the dirt grace is the power inside of you that looks temptation in the eyes and says, "No, I don’t belong to you anymore." Stop living like a hostage. The cross was a search-and-destroy mission against the works of darkness, and the exit door is wide open. Walk in the authority Jesus bought for you.
