Friday Devotional: A Thank Offering to Jesus

Let’s pause for a few moments of reflection and think about our blessings.

Each of us is unique. Each of us has been blessed with different gifts of time, talents and treasure. The Lord has chosen us to be a good Christian stewards. But what does that mean?

Christian stewardship is recognizing that we all have gifts and choosing to use them responsibly for the glory of God and the good of others. It’s the art of managing and sharing all that God has provided and entrusted to each of us. It’s intentional and it takes practice.

A faithful response to God’s grace means finding ways to share the time, talent and treasure that He has given you. Being a good Christian steward goes beyond church donations. In Psalm 24:1, we see that everything belongs to God, so we are called to be responsible caretakers of those blessings.

In Acts 2:44-45, we see the members of the early church sharing their possessions to ensure that no one was in need. This radical generosity serves as a model for how Christians today can work together, pooling resources to impact their communities positively.

What could this kind of stewardship look like for you? Let’s remember that every act of stewardship is a thank offering to Jesus, a testament to our faith and a reflection of our love for Him and His creation.

Prayer: Lord, please give me a heart of stewardship that reflects your goodness, grace, generosity and love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Friday Devotional | Am I Accepted?

Resting in the confidence of already belonging in God and who He says we are.

Our fast-paced culture infuses an element of endless striving that invites us into a false narrative. The world defines our belonging by the number of wins on the scoreboard, the number of followers on a platform and wealth accumulated. This cycle can lead to burnout, people-pleasing and a loss of identity.

The constant need for validation and the shifting tides of culture leave us feeling drained and unworthy. We crave a sense of belonging, where we don't have to perform to be valued. But where can we turn to truly receive this sense of belonging?

Our sense of belonging isn't just about being part of a greater whole; it's about reminding ourselves that through Jesus, we already belong and are worthy.

“For none of us lives for himself, and no one dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”
— Romans 14:7–8

The pressure to prove ourselves is real, but the truth is even more significant: We are already accepted. Will we embrace that acceptance or keep striving and seeking something we already have?

In Jesus, you are already seen, known, rescued and loved.

Fairfield High School senior Spencer McCready is showing what it looks like to lead with faith.

What started as a simple invitation to one teammate to pray before a game grew into the entire team linking arms in prayer before tipoff. No spotlight. No announcement. Just a student-athlete choosing to step up and invite others to pause, pray, and turn their focus to God.

This is FCA in action—students leading, faith being lived out, and teams growing stronger through Christ-centered leadership.

We’re so encouraged by Spencer’s example and the way God is working through him and his team!

Join us in praying that more student-athletes across Eastern Iowa would have the courage to lead and invite others into a relationship with Christ. 🙏

Friday Devotional | Come to Me

Stop striving and take the easy yoke of Jesus.

The world tells us to hurry, strive and push harder. Our culture constantly plays the same tune on repeat: “Do more. Do better. Do it faster.” It’s exhausting.

I often let this mentality bleed into my walk with Jesus. Yet, His response to my hurriedness is still surprising and beautiful.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
— Matthew 11:28-30

In a world that tells us to fix things on our own and keep moving, Jesus says, “Stop striving. Rest here.”

When Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy and His burden is light, He’s revealing something profound. We’re called to walk alongside Him, and He’s the strong One, carrying the weight.

Most of us are exhausted from striving because we’re carrying a yoke meant for Jesus to bear. With Him, there is rest on the journey—not because life isn’t hard, but because He carries the heavy load. The weight rests on the strongest shoulders in the universe: King Jesus.

Are you tired from striving? Come to Jesus. Are there challenges that feel too heavy to carry? Come to Jesus. If you try to carry it all yourself, you’ll only end up more worn out.

Come to Jesus.

The school year is just around the corner, and our Eastern Iowa FCA staff is getting ready for another year of serving schools and communities across Eastern Iowa!

Around the table, there’s planning, preparation, prayer and plenty of conversation about the year ahead—including how we can support coaches, equip Huddle leaders, and encourage student athletes to live out their faith on campus and beyond.
