Wishing for you a safe and restful Labor Day weekend !
Mission of Hope will be closed Monday, September 7th to observe Labor Day. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, September 8. Food Bags will be distributed on Wednesday, September 9.

We *wood* like to *bark* a bit about the great job that Frank's Tree Service did today in taking down a nuisance tree on our campus. It had long since outgrown the space, causing impact to the building, the roof, and had become a highly-accessible ramp for the local trash pandas and other beasties. Less than 90 minutes was all it took - fantastic job by the Frank's crew (and that's hardly going out on a limb). They showed up as promised, worked safely, and their clean-up, as you can see in the pic, was outstanding.
For the novice tree nerds out there, it was an acacia tree, which are native to zones 9-11 (such as Africa and Australia, definitely not Iowa). This presence of long thorns indicated the tree likely was of the Africa strain.
Thanks again to Frank's for the great job.

We want to thank Van Meter Corp. for donating their left over food from an event they had. We are so grateful for the donation. It was put to good use at lunch today. Any time there is left over food from an event we are happy to take it and incorporate it into our noon meals. Just call the Mission and we will make arrangements to get it from you. We check our messages on the weekend so don't hesitate to let us know.

A special thank you to New Leader Manufacturing for buying a meal, and serving it to our neighbors. Also thank you Tim from the Salsa Guy Cafe for preparing a fabulous meal of burritos with queso sauce. I called him at the last minute and without hesitation he offered to prepare and deliver the meal. We are truly blessed. Be sure you stop out at his cafe and enjoy a burrito like we did at lunch.

We're so grateful for the Members and Staff of First Federal Credit Union. When we told Tom Chalstrom, ceo, that our food pantry shelves were getting slim, they rallied and held a food drive and delivered some of the foods that we were most direly in need of.
