“Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise. Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding” Proverbs 15:31-32

Dear God, criticism is not something that I enjoy. Like many people, it makes me feel bad about myself. It also triggers many memories from when I was younger, and my parents were overly critical of me. Please help me to learn to accept criticism and to grow from it. Equip my heart to remain strong when others criticize me. I want to take it in stride and to listen to the wise.

While I know it might still hurt me at times, I know You can help me overcome the pain and disappointment. I trust that You can guide my heart to the way of wisdom rather than ignoring the ways of the wise. Thank You, God, for always hearing my prayers.

In Your Son’s Name, I pray, Amen

“… I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” – Joel 2:28

Dear Holy Spirit,

You know every detail of my mind and life far better than I do. If this dream is a message you’re speaking directly to me, please give me wisdom to understand it clearly and courage to respond in obedience. Help me not to rush ahead of you or jump to conclusions, but to wait patiently for your guidance. If this dream is connected to my thoughts, emotions, or memories, show me what you’re working on within me as you renew my mind.

Please remove confusion, fear, and distraction from my mind and replace them with clarity, peace, and truth. Teach me to listen carefully, to test everything against what you’ve revealed already in the Bible, and to trust your timing. Thank you for being near, for speaking in ways I can understand, and for guiding me step by step as I seek you.

Amen

“For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” Romans 15:4

Dear Heavenly Father,

As Your child, You have given me the gift of faith in Your Son. My hope is not built upon what this world offers me that is fleeting, but a hope much greater for what is eternal and settled. Help me to guard my heart when my circumstances tempt me to allow my emotions to toss me to and fro and give in to despair.

The chaos of the world cannot cause me to sink because I know there is an anchor to be found in the hope of the heavenly home that awaits me. May I bring that message of hope to the lost and hurting around me.

In Jesus’ name, amen

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. - Lamentations 3:40

Heavenly Father,

I humbly bow before You, first thanking You for Your goodness toward me. Search me, O God! If there is any wicked way within me, restore me to You. Forgive me for everything I have done against You. I have sinned against You, Lord, and I receive Your forgiveness.

I ask that You reveal the things I have done with wrong motives and intentions. Please show me the areas in my life that I need to test and examine, and draw me back to You. I relinquish control of myself and everything I have over to You.

Help me to praise and thank You when I feel like complaining. Help me seek You always so I can fulfill Your purpose of glorifying You with my life. Help me continually examine whether I am walking in the faith and serving You with a genuine heart of servitude.

Whenever I murmur and complain, remind me of what happened to Jerusalem. Help me praise You despite what I may be facing. Give me the wisdom to turn my difficulties into praise, remembering that You inhabit the praises of Your people.

When I think of the goodness You continually shower upon me, I realize I have no reason to complain, dear Lord. I want to live a life fully surrendered to You, so remind me often to examine myself, that my life may reflect holy consecration unto You.

In Jesus’ name, amen

The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” — 1 Kings 19:11-13

Dear Lord,

Thank you that you are both powerful and tender. I’ve been feeling distant from you, even though there’s so much evidence of you everywhere. Life is loud, Lord, and I tell myself so many things that I can’t discern your voice. Help me clear space and time to be alone with you. To pray for your will to be what I feel and hear.

Even if I don’t hear you right away, help me establish a habit of finding solitude to listen for your gentle whisper to guide me back on the path you desire for me.

I need you today and always. Amen

“ For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt” Deuteronomy 10:17-19

Great God and Defender of the widow and orphan, I often struggle to know how to reach out to those around me who are in need, including the foreigner whom You love and who You call me to love. There is so much need in the world and in my community. How can I, one person among many, make a difference? I feel like my contribution is small and less impactful than those in higher positions or with greater influence.

Guide me, O Lord, to opportunities where I can use the gifts and resources You have given me to bless and serve others. Keep me from allowing things in life, like fear, politics, or the opinions of those around me, from doing what I know to be right. For by befriending and inviting the stranger, I am welcoming You, Christ. Help me to remember that as I step out in faith today to serve my neighbor.

In Your name, I pray. Amen

At the November General Assembly, the U.S. bishops approved the consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as part of the Church’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Through this act of consecration, the bishops seek to renew devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to recognize the kingship of Christ, perfecting the temporal order with the spirit of the Gospel. Below, you will find the link to the USCCB website with the Novena and other resources. The Novena will begin next Wednesday, June 3rd and conclude Thursday, June 11.
