This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of All Saints. Specifically we remember those who have died in Christ and are part of the company of heaven. If you want to remember someone, please comment their name so that we may include them in our prayers.

After service, we will feast on pizza and salad. Bring something to share if you would like.

Remember the change in time. Daylight Savings ends and our clocks fall back one hour.

22nd Sunday After Pentecost

This week, the invitation goes out to everyone in the streets: The banquet is ready and the table is set, and Isaiah sees it whole, with a feast of rich food on the mountain, death swallowed up forever, every tear wiped away. Moses stands in the breach as Israel worships a golden calf, interceding for a stiff-necked people with the only argument that holds: remember your promises. God relents, because mercy endures forever. Paul writes from prison with inexplicable joy: Rejoice, the Lord is near, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Grace precedes us into every room we enter and follows us out.

Today is the actual Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, which we celebrated yesterday. Weren’t able to attend the Blessing of the Animals? Here’s our prayer for your beloved animal friends:
“Lord bless this, thy creature, and all who love and care for them. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.”

In this week's readings, God, who is always more ready to give than we are to ask, plants a vineyard, speaks commandments from a smoking mountain, and sets the heavens themselves declaring glory. God asks only that we bear fruit worthy of such lavish care.

The heavens declare it, the law confirms it, and the resurrection seals it: God gives what we could never deserve nor dare to ask.

St. John’s Episcopal Church is small but mighty, and today we had a blast fueling up the Carthage High School Band for band camp.
