Did you know?

The communion wine used at Gethsemane and Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer is processed locally with grapes grown at seven of the twelve houses in Greencrest Court which is about a mile from LCOR. One of the residents, Jerry Parks, has the equipment to crush, ferment and bottle the wine when ready. A neighbor, Bob Stadler, assists in the operations. They have been doing this for about 15 years.
Jerry’s daughter, Heidi (a Gethsemane confirmand) and son-in-law Joe Borg grow 40 vines at their Folsom residence which are also used in the wine processing. The grapes are mostly of the syrah variety. Picking and crushing usually occur around August when the grapes have reached the proper sugar content. Bottling is done when the wine is ready. About 20 neighbors and friends show up for these events.
The wine is labeled as Court 32 since all the addresses on the court begin with the number 32.
