Recapture the Minds of America.
"The long march through the institutions," is a slogan coined by Communist student activist Rudi Dutschke around 1967 to describe his strategy for cultural revolution: subverting society by infiltrating institutions such as the universities, industries, religion, and politics.
The concept was drawn from “The Long March” of the Chinese Communist Party in the 1930s. The Chinese Long March was the Communist Army’s siege of the nation that began the ascent to power of Mao Zedong, whose leadership during the march gained him the support of the members of the party. The bitter struggles of the Long March, which was completed by about eight thousand troops, came to represent a significant episode in the history of the Chinese Communist Party, and would seal the personal prestige of Mao Zedong and his supporters as the new leaders of the party in the following decades. Regarding revolutionary mass murder, both Hi**er and Stalin were outdone by Mao Zedong. From 1958 to 1962, his Great Leap Forward policy led to the deaths of up to 45 million people – easily making it the biggest episode of mass murder ever recorded.
Dutschke’s “Long March through the institutions” would parallel a slow move to first teach students the evils of the United States institutions of education, capitalism, politics, and religion. It focused on ways to change the United States through little bits of Marxist Socialism. Those who were taught would become the teachers and professors who would magnify the initial teaching with greater influence of Socialist philosophy. Then those taught, would become not only the teachers, but the leaders of industry, religion, and politics. The pattern would repeat itself until an entire nation believed.
I sadly believe the Socialist ideology has won the day in most of these categories, especially in academia and politics. In the early 1970s Johnny Cash almost prophetically wrote, “the ones you’re calling wild are gonna be the leaders in a little while and I solemnly swear that things will be their way. You better teach the voice of youth, what is truth.”
Is it time for a Christian Long March to save the soul of our nation?
Having lost a battle does not mean we necessarily lose the war. I believe it is time for the Christian community and those who still believe there is universal truth to start by taking back academia – by home schooling and by starting new institutes of learning that refuse the Socialist academic philosophy that is so damning to our nation. As Dutschke recognized then, a Christian cultural shift will not happen quickly. But if people of faith will stand the test of time and march under the banner of Biblical truth, we can again win the day.
This will not be a march of violence, as demonstrated by the modern protestors, but following the Old Testament prophet’s word from God, Zechariah 4:6, “… Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
This Christian Long March must begin in the home with parents teaching children how to discern truth and then those same parents holding those truths precious in their personal lives. We must expect, even demand, the children be ‘educated’ and not indoctrinated. As Christians, we must never bow our knee to cultural pressure.
Currently, the education systems in the United States are run at the whim of the Department of Education and state and local school boards who seem to bend to the loudest voices of cultural demand. Our children and grandchildren are no longer routinely taught basic educational skills but indoctrinated by social theory including Critical Race Theory and Social Justice Theory. Neither of which are supported by U.S. history or biblical merit. It is hard to define CRT and SJ because they are moving targets. But be assured, both CRT and SJ movements result in neo-Marxist class warfare pitting oppressed versus oppressors, victim versus victimizers – with both oppressed and victim being defined by race or sexual identity.
Even more alarming is the indoctrination requiring children to solve problems with social just solutions – only answers deemed socially acceptable – and do not teach our children to THINK through problems and situations. Critical thinking should teach “How” to think. But in today’s culture CRT and SJ enforce “What” to think. Learning to think critically may be one of the most important skills today's children will need for the future. In today’s rapidly changing world, children need to be able to do much more than repeat a list of facts; they need to be thinkers who can make sense of information, analyze, compare, contrast, make inferences, and generate higher order thinking skills.
Is it time for a Christian Long March to save the soul of our nation? I believe the answer is a resounding YES and it starts in every level of our educational systems.
