We see God’s tenderness and action of Jesus in today’s lesson of Matthew 9. Jesus calls people who are not upstanding citizens to be his disciples. We are called to be those disciples, too. Why do we have trouble seeing people considered “less-than” doing Jesus’s work?
A better question is how are we supposed to do that? People’s words can be so cruel. How can we be part of people who claim to be Christian but don’t act like Christians? Some of us may have been blessed to never experience rejection and always felt loved. But some of us have experienced shame and degradation as a tool of trying to have power over us. Jesus invites us to leave those who question our love for God and all His people, those who may be in our church community who tell us that we need to be different. This is just stuff: stuff not made of God.
Jesus calls us to relearn what God and the Holy Spirit are all about. This God adores us for who we are and will lead us to love and compassion for all his people. This will help us become His Living Stones! Gods voice say “I am love and you are love.,” Take that message with you everywhere you go. Amen.
