This weekend’s special collection is for the support of all of our diocese’s cemeteries and their loving care.

Your faithful support provides a peaceful and holy space for our many families and visitors. It also provides for the careful stewardship and maintenance of our St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, as well as of all our other diocesan cemeteries, including San Lorenzo Cemetery in St. Augustine and Gate of Heaven and Our Lady of Hope Cemeteries in Jacksonville.

Continuing with our election preparation, this week we’ll look at the considerations for Amendment 3, titled "Increased Homestead Exemption; Lower Cap on Increases in Non-Homestead Property Assessments.”

The bishops recommend we carefully evaluate this amendment, “particularly in light of the principle of subsidiarity and its potential impact on the common good.”

St. Ignatius of Antioch was one of the Apostolic Fathers, those men from the first and second centuries who are believed to have personally known one or some of the apostles, and who were directly influenced by them. While being transported under guard from Antioch to Rome to be executed, St. Ignatius wrote seven letters of encouragement to the earliest Christians. It is from these letters that we get insight into the beliefs and practices of the early Church. St. Ignatius took special care always to defend orthodoxy (right teaching) and orthopraxy (right practice).

Did you know: Ignatius is the first writer to have used the phrase “Catholic Church.”
