Do you know someone who is unable to attend Mass because of age or illness? They may appreciate a visit from one of our Eucharistic Ministers.

During a visit, our ministers can:
• Bring Holy Communion
• Offer prayer and share the Sunday Gospel
• Bring the parish Sunday bulletin
• Offer a friendly visit and companionship
• Share reflections and offer blessings
• Help arrange a visit from a priest for the Anointing of the Sick or Reconciliation, when requested

These visits are offered with care, respect, and confidentiality, providing spiritual support and meaningful connection to our parish community.

If you know someone who may benefit from this ministry, please contact our Central Office at 716-875-8102. Please provide the person’s contact information along with any special instructions or needs.

💙 No one should feel forgotten or alone. We are here to help keep our homebound parishioners connected to their faith and parish family.

Today, August 27, the Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Monica.

Saint Monica’s persistent prayers for her son, Augustine, stand as a timeless witness to the power of unwavering faith and divine grace. Her life encourages us to remain steadfast in prayer, even in moments of doubt.

Today, we join in seeking Saint Monica's intercession for all mothers and fathers who faithfully pray for the spiritual well-being of their children.

Volunteers Needed for Children’s Liturgy

Looking to share God’s Word with our youngest parishioners? We are excited to expand our Children’s Liturgy of the Word program this fall, but we need your help to make it happen!

We currently have volunteers to offer Children’s Liturgy twice a month at Holy Spirit, and we are also looking to bring this ministry to Assumption as well.

• Role: Share simplified scripture readings, lead brief discussions, and guide activities tailored for children during Mass.
• Requirement: All volunteers must be VIRTUS trained (or willing to complete the training) to ensure a safe environment for our kids.
• Commitment: Flexible schedules available! Whether you can help once a month or more, your time makes a huge difference.

If you have a heart for teaching, love working with children, and want to support our parish families, we would love to have you on the team. Interested in joining call CCBN’s main office at 716-875-8102.

To Carry the Cross

Carry the cross? Absolutely. I’m happy to! Hand it over. Here’s the thing: I just might…set it down for a second, from time to time. That’s okay, right?

How else am I supposed to have both hands free to gesture in anger? I can’t do that if I’m carrying the cross. Well, fine, then let me just shift its weight, so I can catch my breath and say what I think about this person who’s got it all wrong — I’ll just lean it against the wall here. No? Okay, fine, I won’t put it down! I’ll keep holding it. That’s better, actually. Then I can use it as a weapon.

What? Am I doing this “Christian” thing wrong?

“Whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,” Jesus tells us in today’s Gospel. “But whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

This is not an affirmation of the paradox that if you no longer care about something, you can finally have it once and for all. It’s not a judgment about the worthlessness of life in this fallen world or the futility of trying to preserve that life.

It’s merely a statement about priorities.

When Peter says, “God forbid!” at the thought of suffering, God is not his priority. His own safety is.

When I say, “God forbid!” at anything that comes from the mouth of God, it’s a reminder to look at my hands — because they’ve probably put down the cross.

How merciful is our Lord — he never takes my cross from me, even when I walk far away from it. He always lets me pick it back up. In his dear and sweet goodness, he even helps me lift its weight. And he gestures, in case I’ve forgotten: “This way. Follow me.”
