Be Faithful in the Small Things
2 Timothy 1:5 (NIV®)
I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

As Paul writes to Timothy, he commends him for the faith he first saw in Timothy's mother and grandmother and that now lives in him. Like any homemakers, Lois and Eunice would have completed many daily tasks at their kitchen table. We can imagine that they would have shared their values with Timothy through years of daily conversations there. For many generations, the kitchen table was the hub of every home. It was the place where we were reminded of our faith and our biblical values. It was where we received godly advice. Unfortunately, we've moved away from that time together as families. I want to invite you to put down your devices and come back to the kitchen table at least once a week. Whether your group is two or ten, regularly gathering at the kitchen table and practicing hospitality can help you grow closer to one another and strengthen your faith as you share life's ups and downs and what God is doing in your daily lives.

THINK ABOUT IT
It's most often the simple expressions of faith that bring transformation to our lives. God doesn't need us to do extravagant things or extraordinary things. He needs us to be faithful in the small things—like sitting at the kitchen table and sharing our faith and values with those around us.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness to me. Thank You that You have been faithful even when my faith has been weak. Help me practice hospitality for Your purposes. Fill me with the desire to share my faith and my values with friends and family. Make my table and my home a powerful force for You in the world. In Jesus' name, amen.

We extend our Christian Love and Sympathy to the family of Dale Kramersmeier. Dale passed away Wednesday morning. There will be a visitation at the church on Monday August 24 from 4 - 6 PM and one hour before the service on Tuesday.

An outdoor service, weather permitting, will be held around the Gazebo at 10 AM on Tuesday August 25. Please remember to bring your lawn chair, golf cart or even a tractor if you would like.

Navigating with God's Perspective

Psalm 119:105 (NIV®)
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Change is often hard, and it is never embraced by everyone. I have read that during the American Revolution, only about a third of the colonists were in favor of gaining independence. Another third wanted to remain British. A final third wanted to wait and see what would happen before they expressed an opinion. It wasn't that different during Jesus' time. When Jesus began His public ministry, not everyone chose to be His follower. Many despised Him, and many wanted to wait and see what He would do. There will be many opinions expressed during seasons of change. If the consequences are significant, however, we should not base our decisions on mere personal opinion or preference. Those of us who consider ourselves to be Christ-followers have a resource: God's Word. Scripture is essential when we navigate seasons of change. It lights our path and allows us to base our decisions on more than our opinions. We can make choices guided by the perspective given to us by God Himself.

THINK ABOUT IT
God's Word is essential to navigating seasons of change because its truth gives us guidance and perspective, delivering us from the tyranny of fear and self.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me Your perspective through Scripture so I can clearly see the pathway before me. You are my Guide and Provider. Help me to depend more fully on Your Word for every aspect of my journey through time, especially in seasons of shaking and great change. In Jesus' name, amen.

It's a Heart Issue

Matthew 5:17–18 (NLT®)
"Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved."

People will always have discussions about the Old Covenant versus the New Covenant. Jesus acknowledged that some would misunderstand why He had come, but He assured them that He did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. He did not come to diminish the law but to extend it. The law said, "If you commit adultery, you're guilty." Jesus said, "If you look at someone with lust and want to commit adultery, you're guilty" (Matthew 5:27–28). The New Covenant frees us from the laws, but it does not reduce God's standard of holiness. It turns our obedience from a legal issue to a heart issue. We will always struggle with our carnal nature, but our best expression of our love for God will be through our obedience

THINK ABOUT IT
When we make Jesus Lord of our lives, we are freed from the Old Covenant laws as a means of right standing with God. Instead, we have an even higher calling: to express our gratitude and love for God through our obedience to Him and His loving boundaries.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word—for its truth, authority, and power in my life. As I take my stand to put my trust in You, may Your power and authority begin a process of deliverance in my life. Help me to find new freedom in my desire to obey You in everything. In Jesus' name, amen.
