Alexander United Methodist Church

Alexander United Methodist Church On a hill, under the shade of live oak trees, sits the Alexander United Methodist Church. Austin. Church meetings were begun in a log cabin.

In 1854, the Reverend Robert Alexander, a circuit-riding minister for the Methodist Church, organized the Alexander Chapel on the land deeded by the heirs of George W. Singleton, one of the "Old 300" settlers who came to Texas with Stephen F. Two years later the first building was constructed. A second church was built in 1908, and the current building still serving the congregation was built in 1

939. The present congregation consists of a mixture of descendants from earlier generations and those who have moved into the community in recent years. Alexander United Methodist Church has met continually at its present location longer than any other congregation in Brazos County. September 25, 2012 marks the 158th anniversary of AUMC.
