😮 Why Did Jesus BREATHE on His Disciples?

There is a fascinating moment after the resurrection that can be easy to read right past.

John 20:22 says Jesus breathed on His disciples and told them, ā€œReceive the Holy Spirit.ā€

That image takes us all the way back to creation, when God breathed life into Adam. Now, following the resurrection, we see another picture of life and new creation.

When we give ourselves to Jesus, we aren’t simply trying to improve the old version of ourselves. In Christ, we become a new creation. šŸ™Œ

THIS is why we do what we do. ā¤ļø

Church is so much more than a Sunday service.

It’s people encountering Jesus. It’s lives being changed. It’s walking alongside each other through the hard places and celebrating together when God brings us through them.

Sunday, we got to see 17 people take a powerful step of faith through baptism.

What an honor it is to be a small part of what God is doing in each of their lives.

And yes—we STILL have more photos. 😁 Here are a few more of our favorites from an incredible Baptism Sunday! šŸ™ŒšŸ’¦

There’s something powerful about watching someone come up out of the water. šŸ’¦

Baptism gives us this beautiful picture of the Gospel—the old has passed away, and in Christ, we are made new.

Sunday, we watched that picture play out again and again as 17 people were baptized.

Different ages. Different backgrounds. Different stories.

But the same Jesus. The same grace. The same promise of new life.

We’re still celebrating, and we’ve still got more photos to share! ā¤ļø

🤯 MILLIONS Heard the Gospel in Just 2 Years

No internet. No social media. No livestreams. No podcasts.

Yet Acts tells us that the Word of the Lord spread throughout the province of Asia.

What happens when ordinary followers of Jesus are empowered by the Holy Spirit and actually take the Great Commission seriously?

The Book of Acts gives us a glimpse—and it should challenge the modern Church. šŸ”„

One of the beautiful things about baptism is that you don’t do it alone. ā¤ļø

You step into the water surrounded by people who love you, pray for you, encourage you, and celebrate what God is doing in your life.

That’s what it means to be a church family.

Sunday, we had the privilege of surrounding 17 people as they publicly declared their faith in Jesus—and the joy on these faces says more than we ever could.

Here are a few more moments from a day we’ll never forget. šŸ’¦šŸ™Œ

šŸ’§ Baptism Is a Wedding AND a Funeral

A wedding is a public covenant: I choose you. I belong to you.

A funeral marks the end of a life.

Baptism gives us a picture of both. We publicly declare our covenant with Jesus while burying the old life beneath the water. We rise again, not because we’ve suddenly become perfect, but because Jesus has given us a new life to live by His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit.

That makes baptism so much more than ā€œgetting dunked.ā€ ā¤ļø

We’re going to be celebrating this one for a while. ā¤ļø

On Sunday, 17 people were baptized—and behind every one of these photos is a story.

A story of God working in a life. A story of someone taking another step toward Jesus. A story that started long before they stepped into the water and will continue long after they came out.

That’s one of the things we love most about baptism. We get to celebrate a moment, but God has been at work all along.

We’ll be sharing more photos from Baptism Sunday throughout the week. Here are a few more moments we’re grateful we got to witness. šŸ™ŒšŸ’¦

Basics Part 14 | What is Baptism? šŸ’§
Open Arms Community Church and B-Free Church came together at Marilla Landing for worship, the Word, fellowship, and one of our favorite things to celebrate: people publicly declaring their faith in Jesus through baptism! ā¤ļø

Before we entered the water, Pastor Dan Robinson, Pastor Zoe Hatcher, and Pastor Misty Surine walked us through some of the big questions surrounding baptism. What does baptism actually mean? Does it save us? What about infant baptism? Does it matter how you're baptized? What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

One of our favorite descriptions from the morning was that baptism is both a wedding and a funeral. It's a covenant declaration that we belong to Jesus, while also representing the death of our old life and the new life we've received through Him.

And then we got to watch people live that declaration out in the water. šŸ’§šŸ™Œ

If you weren't able to join us at Marilla—or if you'd simply like to experience it again—the full service is now available on our YouTube channel, including the music and the complete message.

We are so grateful for what God is doing in people's lives, and grateful that we get to celebrate it together as the family of God.

New life. Public faith. Jesus is Lord. ā¤ļø

We’re still celebrating! šŸ™ŒšŸ’¦ā¤ļø

Yesterday was a day we won’t soon forget. Seventeen people stepped into the waters of baptism, each one with their own story of how God has been working in their life.

And honestly, there were too many beautiful moments to fit into one post.

The smiles. The hugs. The tears. The prayers. The joy of friends and family gathered around to celebrate lives being made new in Jesus.

We took a LOT of photos, and we’ll be sharing more of them all week long—because moments like these are worth remembering and stories like these are worth celebrating.

Here are a few more from an incredible day with our church family. ā¤ļø

God is at work, and we are so grateful that we get to witness it.
