A Quick Thought 6/4/26

We all hear it everywhere, every day, all the time—All the “ideals, concepts, beliefs and truths” of the world. The question that plagues us is this—How do we combat or flood out or overcome all this false teaching and abominable mis-truth? Well, the answer is and has always been—The Word of God.

When scripture is given out (spoken, preached, communicated, read) completely and fully it is capable and the only thing that is capable of stamping out the “my truth” of the world around us. No policy, politics, programs, patience, nor preference will ever pacify or purify the world of the sin that it perpetrates, promotes and practices. Only light can chase away darkness and only truth (real truth) can dispel falsehood. It is only the washing of the Word that can cleanse. It is only the Savior (Jesus Christ) of the Bible that can save from sin. It is only the law of the Bible that can govern mankind.

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. -2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV)

Don’t be dismayed nor discouraged by all the “mis-speak” that the world offers. Saying it more and saying it louder, Does NOT make it truth. So, my dear friend, speak the truth, stand for the truth, spread the truth, seasonably or unseasonably, because it is not a last resort it is the ONLY resort to silence, squash and stop sin and its many forms of mis-truth.

Have an amazing day,
-Pastor Scott

What’s got your attention today?

In Psalm 57, the Psalmist David, is in a struggle. The title above the Psalm gives evidence that David is on the run from Saul. Saul was David’s King, boss and father-in-law, but also sadly, he was his enemy. Saul was crazy jealous of David and he wanted to kill him and had already attempted to do so.

In verse 1, David says, …in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. David was putting his trust in God, with the faith and expectation that these calamities would pass. David’s trust was in God.

Verse 7, I believe, gives the key to this passage and to David’s faith in God. The verse reads—My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. David had fixed his heart on God. The word fixed here means that David’s heart was set toward God; fasten to God; stable on God. David had firmly attached his heart to God’s and put his life in His hands.

What this text has taught me is simply this—
It is much scarier and more dangerous to let my heart get distracted or unattached from God then what any approaching enemy may do.

Whatever “enemy” is chasing you today, make sure your heart is fixed on/toward God and you can rest in His hands.

God Is Not Very Far

In Acts 17, the apostle Paul addressed the philosophers of Mars Hill. He was overwhelmed at all their idolatry, and even noticed an inscription on an altar to “THE UNKNOWN GOD.” Paul, points out that He is not mysterious and went on to proclaim the existence and reality of the True and Living God.

In his speech, Paul proclaimed a wonderful truth; he said, “That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:” (Acts 17:27 KJV). Isn’t that an amazing thought? He is not very far from any of us! To the pagan (lost) congregation that day, Paul was letting them know that the UNKNOWN GOD can indeed be known; but to you and I who are living as believers we are reminded that God is close by.

We do not live without God; we live because of God. He is not a distant, cold, indifferent cosmic, unreachable being who never involves Himself with the affairs of mere mortals. No, He knows us, loves us, and is always in close proximity. He understands everything that is going in our lives. He is close by today – so close in fact, that if you are born again, He dwells within us.

It is good to know that God can be known, and that He is near. Are you close to Him?

Have an amazing day,
-Pastor Scott

Chatter—Do you hear it? It’s all around.

We are immersed in chatter; people talking about this, voicing their opinions about that. It almost seems omnipresent in many ways. From social pages to podcast to political rhetoric, we are inundated with the sound of meaningless, trivial, non-relenting noise. What seems like mass chaotic clamor coming from a thousand directions, however, it is actually the culmination of a much-greater sinister ploy.

We have so many voices jockeying for our attention, that we actually hear nothing. This is the strategy of our enemy the devil. He has so manipulated the voices in our lives that we hardly recognize the tender tone of the still small voice of our Lord.

We have conversations about God without having conversations with God. Like Elijah of old, we stand in the dark cave of discontentment and listen for the earthquake, the fire, and the wind. The chatter of it all mesmerizes our minds, but our hearts remain empty and void. Through the noise, God, in His gentleness and meekness calls us unto Himself. He speaks, but do we hear?

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. –Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him. -Habakkuk 2:20 (KJV)

Shhhh…Listen, I think God is talking.

Have an amazing day,
-Pastor Scott
