Do not get befuddled by the changes that are taking place and will take place. Be strong and steady as you move through the days ahead. Every day is a new day often with unexpected events that you must endure and work your way through. But, this is a time of unusual spiritual growth and development as well. Seek My face for direction, says the Lord (Burns).
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

Live like you love Him

Less Is More
(Excerpts and inspiration from Less Noise, More God devotional by Joon Tavarez)

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We’ve all heard the saying, less is more, but how often do we really ascribe to that? The world is full of those working hard to have a better life for their families than perhaps how they grew up. And there’s nothing wrong with that on the surface.

It’s the constant pressure to thrive and achieve and the fear that if you don’t have that same drive to push you’re seen as lazy. Many times I’ve had to step back and ask myself—to what end? Am I missing the most important relationships, experiences and personal growth opportunities by chasing after something where the cost may be too great in the end? And truth be told, how do I really feel once having attained that for which I sacrificed so much energy? I know, I know…I end up chasing after the next biggest thing, never truly satisfied or fulfilled. 🤔

Joon Tavarez in his devotional puts it this way, “A sober mind understands that limits protect what matters most. Self-control isn’t about restriction; it’s about alignment…Sober-minded believers aren’t driven by excess; they’re guided by purpose.”

“When we chase ‘more,’ we often sacrifice peace, integrity, or spiritual attentiveness. But when we simplify, we gain clarity. Less noise makes room for God’s voice. Less clutter creates space for obedience.”

What noise do you need to shut down, and what clutter can you get rid of to make room for God?

To coin one of my Pastor’s recent sermons, “Keep Your Room Clean and Make Room for Victory”. Less really is more!!

Bobby Garnett, widely known as “Bobby From Boston,” holds an important place in the history of American fashion and vintage menswear. He is a renowned Black vintage clothing curator and owner of the store Bobby From Boston. While he was not officially part of Ralph Lauren’s design team, his influence on the world Ralph Lauren admired and drew inspiration from was significant.

Bobby Garnett was one of the most respected vintage dealers in the United States. He built a reputation for sourcing extraordinary pieces of early American menswear, workwear, military garments, western clothing, denim, tailoring, footwear, and rare accessories. His eye for authenticity, quality, and history made him a trusted source for designers, collectors, stylists, and major fashion brands. Among the people who appreciated and drew from that world was Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren drew heavily on the curation and personal archive of Bobby Garnett.

The Ralph Lauren Corporation is valued as a $22 billion company. Ralph Lauren himself maintains a personal net worth of roughly $8 billion to $11.9 billion. Garnett was never awarded corporate equity, royalty points, or capital from the massive profits generated by the "Americana" style he helped define.

Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. 7 Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious — the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Phil 4:6-9, MSB

Peace be with you

Gratitude may be the best-kept secret to help reduce stress and feel better. Focusing on what you’re thankful for every day can improve your health and emotional well-being.

Start a gratitude journal. Once a week, give yourself 10 to 15 minutes and write down people, places, things, memories, or events you’re grateful for.
Text a friend or call someone to tell them you are grateful for them and why.
Do a favor for someone you are grateful for.
Volunteer, if you can. Consider volunteering for an organization or activity where you can help others or give back to your community.

Oh That Tongue!
(This one is worth revisiting)

“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Death and life are in the power of your tongue. We’ve heard that scripture many times. I submit that it’s not just in the words we say out loud to others because what we say, we also speak over ourselves.

While we often think this scripture is directed at what is said to others, the negative thoughts and words we harbor and replay over and over impact us as well—they speak death or life so we must choose our words carefully. Unlike the playground rhyme we were all taught as children (sticks and stones) words do hurt.

The Bible admonishes “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” In other words, what’s in your heart will eventually be spoken out of your mouth. Instead, replace the negative and hurtful words you say to others and yourselves by those that speak life and health.

The question is, how will you temper your thoughts and use your words today, to speak healing and hope? 🤔

Pause…Pray…Reflect…

Be kind to yourselves and to others.

The "101 Tuskegee Airmen" typically refers to the 101 Black officers arrested at Freeman Army Airfield in Seymour, Indiana, in April 1945. They engaged in a historic act of mass civil disobedience against military segregation, known as the Freeman Field Mutiny. Black officers peacefully entered and attempted to use the White officers' club and were arrested by military police.

Base leadership drafted a new order specifically requiring officers to sign a statement acknowledging that they read, understood, and accepted the segregation rules. A total of 101 Black officers bravely refused to sign. The officers were arrested for willful disobedience of a direct order in time of war—a charge that originally carried the threat of the death penalty. After major press coverage embarrassed the War Department, the men were released. This stand was a watershed moment in the civil rights movement. It helped pave the way for President Harry Truman to officially desegregate the U.S. Armed Forces in 1948.

Fix Your Thoughts and Free Your Mind
(Inspired by Worry to Worship devotional written by Lakeisha Maldon)

The enemy takes great joy in having us so entangled with the cares of everyday life that our minds are constantly in overdrive. We can run miles in minutes and can’t really give focus and attention on the things that matter. As a result, our prayer life is disturbed, we are not present in important conversations, our sleep is interrupted with To Do’s, What-Ifs, Next Steps, etc. And Guess What (as my granddaughter often says)? This stuff we carry and swirl around in our heads creates a wedge between us and God. It causes us to miss out on family and we never really solve the problems that take up so much head space—they just grow.

The Bible clearly admonishes, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I know it’s sometimes easier said than done but let’s commit today to changing our mindset. Find and commit to memory a couple of scriptures to redirect your focus when those ANTS (annoying negative thoughts) bombard your mind. I promise you’ll lose pounds of worry, stress and anxiety and be well on your way to maintaining a healthier you—spiritually, emotionally and physically!

Pause…Pray…Reflect.
