DON’T BE A JONAH!! If you’ve ever read the story of Jonah, you’re familiar with this biblical truth of a spiritual “cautionary tale”. Only in this case I do not believe that this is a tale of any kind. It’s actually a warning to any servant of God who has been called but for reasons that are based solely on prejudice (as Jonah was…), or personal comfort, refuses to obey the directive of God. Reminder to we who claim the name of God: We go where God sends us, and we serve those to whom we have been sent—without question or personal feeling. It is Christ who we present, not ourselves. 😊

Just a few reflections as I ponder through this familiar account. Happy Tuesday!!!

Good morning.
Sitting here this fine fall morning and reflecting upon at least two familiar passages. One (Isaiah 43) is the promise of the Lord to Israel--His people; the other (Romans 8:28-39) is to all believers of any age. A unique note to both passages is the fact that GOD DOES NOT PROMISE TO TAKE AWAY THE PROBLEM but rather, HIS SUSTAINING PRESENCE IN THE MIDST OF THE PROBLEM. Yet another familiar promise--one that immediately comes to my mind when I think of God's presence, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5). Jesus once stated, "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33). TRUTH: The world has not yet been overcome. God is allowing sin to increase because it fits HIS Prophetic Plan. The "overcoming" for us--at least for now--is taking place in our heart. This is what theologians refer to as SANCTIFICATION, i.e. the process which is conforming us to the image of Christ. How is this accomplished? Every time we submit to the experiences of life that is in accordance with God's will, we are brought that much closer to the image of Christ. Deep stuff? WELCOME TO CHRISTIANITY.
