The last thing I did was anoint his head w/ oil, like all over, his face too. Then when I stopped he took his last breath.
I think there is meaning to his hair being cut too. Brooke didn't come for a very long time due to not wanting to "touch death" because of her father's death.
She came in the last hours, when her friend asked her, "will you regret never going to cut Gene's hair"? Right after she was done, Rebekah had the last interaction with him.
His spirit departed when Rebekah put the sticker on the TV.
