What a crazy hunt! Set up on this field and called at 2:10pm. He answered but was a ways off. I have to leave at 2:45 to go get my kids off the bus. I knew it would have to happen quick…hence me not taking time to put on camo pants. He answers but doesn’t come in. I go to leave at 2:45 and start calling as I go walking up a path. I hear him again and he now out in the field I just left. I run back down the path so no can see and I watch him in full strut 200 yards away with a hen and 3 jakes…and they are headed my direction. My wife’s at work. I call my neighbor who’s a turkey hunter and quietly explain the situation. The flock starts running my way and gets to 80 yards. Neighbor agrees to pick the kids up off the bus for me. I hang up and get the gun up. The hen comes right to the gate (mind you, I have permission on both sides) and the jakes start heading over the hill. He gets to 60 yards, lifts his head and I rolled him. And somehow I got it all on video which I can’t wait for you to see. This season hasn’t played out as easy as past seasons. But I’ve kept at it when I can. I’m grateful to the Lord for the time in the woods, big turkeys, and neighbors who are there for you when you need them!
