John 15:5-11. I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

The Peace - Sunday, June 7 at 7pm at The Congregational Church on Mercer Island
We are excited to co-host a contemplative evening service that invites you to rest the body, quiet the mind, and be still in the presence of God. Jun Love Young, our guest preacher that morning, will facilitate this prayerful time of rest. If you are feeling weary or find yourself longing for a space to breathe and experience ease and peace, we invite you to join us for this special service. All are welcome.

Join us tomorrow, in person or online for our worship service at 10:00 a.m. Following our service tomorrow we will have a congregational meeting which is open to all who are invested in the life of the church.

Romans 12:9-17
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal; be ardent in spirit; serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; pursue hospitality to strangers.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be arrogant, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.

Come, Join the Conversation on Saturday, May 30
WIC, Women in Connection, meets once a month in person to share, to laugh, to support, and to nurture one another. Started many years ago by a few women who were mostly past the active child-raising phase of life, we are still going strong. We welcome women of any age who wish to talk about life. Topics include aging parents, health challenges, adult children, grandchildren, moving, the deaths of dear friends, travel, and interesting books we’ve read. Our conversations range widely, sometimes wildly. The only rule is confidentiality: what’s said in WIC stays in WIC. We meet in person on the last Saturday of the month from 9:30 to about 11:30 a.m. in the Education Suite upstairs. Staying for the whole two hours is optional. And there is no penalty for being late!

Tuesday Book Group
The book group that meets on the second Tuesday at 1pm has chosen the book "Deep River" by Karl Marlantes as their next read. For more information/to participate, please contact Sharon Bowler ([email protected]).

Deep River is a 2020 historical epic novel by Karl Marlantes, following three Finnish siblings—Ilmari, Matti, and Aino Koski—as they flee Russian-occupied Finland for the Pacific Northwest in the early 1900s. The book chronicles their lives as they become loggers, union activists, and entrepreneurs, exploring themes of labor, capitalism, immigration, and the clash between tradition and modernity against the backdrop of the American labor movement and World War I. Inspired by his own Finnish-American family history, Marlantes weaves in Finnish mythology, particularly the Kalevala, to create a sprawling family saga about resilience, identity, and the making of America.
