“Softly And Tenderly”

This hymn was crafted in 1880 by Will L. Thompson. Will wrote both the lyrics and music for this hymn. He first published this work in his collection called “Sparkling Gems, Nos.1 and 2.”.

Will was born in Pennsylvania and attended Mount Union College in Ohio. He continued his studies in New England at the Conservatory of Music before he finalized his studies in Germany.

Will was a publisher as well as a composer of hymns. When Will’s hymns were rejected by publishers he decided to create his own publishing company in Ohio. By the 1880s Will’s company also sold music instruments and supplies too.

This hymn was famously used by D.L. Moody for his services as an invitational song. This song was also sung during the funeral service for Martin Luther King Jr. This hymn showcases how Jesus is wanting to welcome all into Heaven and He calls everyone to make that decision. There is no better way to end this entry other than, Come Home to Jesus today.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20 KJV

“Praise Him! Praise Him!”

This hymn was written in 1869 by F***y Crosby. The music was created by Chester Allen in 1869. F***y crafted between 8,000-9,000 hymns in her lifetime. Even though she was blind at the age of six, she became very popular for her poems and hymns. She was under contract with a publishing company to produce three hymns a week at one point. Chester was relatively unknown and despite this very popular hymn, there is still little known about him.

This hymn first appeared in a Sunday School hymnal called “Bright Jewels” in 1869.

This upbeat song showcases our wonderful Savior, the sacrifice He made for us, and the wonder we have to look forward to in Heaven.
This song captures the love Jesus has for His children. Rest assured that Jesus knows and loves every one of His children and walks beside them while on this Earth and then welcomes them into Heaven.

“… not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭21‬-‭22‬ ‭KJV‬‬
