God's steadfast love:
And our reminding proclamation of it!

Lakewood's Weekly Word of Encouragement

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble…” Psalm 107:1-2

A Shepherd’s Encouragement:

Dear brother and sisters, have you tasted and seen the steadfast covenant keeping promises of love of God in Christ Jesus? Have you been forgiven, changed, cleansed, and brought near to God? While you are not yet what you desire, can you rejoice in what you are no longer?

Have you seen the goodness of God in Spirit enabled joy and delight?

There is something deeply spiritual about taking grandmother’s advice and ‘counting your blessings’. We’ve been saved from the troubles that arise in our hearts and this world. And ultimately we have been saved from living now and forever apart from our good God. The psalmist reinforces us to not simply count, and remember… we’ve been rescued.

But to ‘say so’!
Tell yourself, tell a spouse, a coworker, your children before bed, a close friend.
Open your mouth and give thanks to the LORD.

“But God is good, all the time - no intervals” - Shai Linne

A Heartfelt Prayer:

Father, you are kind and your steadfast covenant love in Christ knows no end. Enlarge my heart, captivate my soul, increase my joy and open my mouth to tell myself and others of your goodness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Whatever you are holding onto that is pulling you away from God, put it to death.

Colossians 3:5 is not about managing behavior or trying harder to be good. It is a bold call to starve out the old patterns like lust, greed, and idolizing success that promise life but leave you hollow.

You cannot step into who Christ made you to be while clinging to what destroys you. Clear the clutter, cut the ties, and make room for what actually lasts.

What if you feel like you have too many excuses for God to use you?

Moses had plenty. In fact, he basically gave God the same excuse twice. 😅

But God didn’t respond by saying, “You’re right. I guess I’ll find someone else.”

He simply showed Moses that His power is greater than our limitations.

Your weakness doesn’t disqualify you. Your insecurities don’t surprise Him. Your past doesn’t put you beyond His reach.

God can still work with that. And He can still use you.

What’s the excuse you’ve been giving God?

What might cause you to sing?
A reminder to look at the character of God.

Lakewood's Weekly Word of Encouragement:

“Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!” Psalm 100:1-2

A Shepherd’s Encouragement:

A reluctance to sing is not uncommon. It’s one of many acts where we ideally would ‘feel it’ and then belt out. This can make singing with God’s people on a Sunday morning difficult. What if I arrive and my performance in the Christian life has been wretched? What if I feel shame and guilt? What if stayed up too late and I’m still tired? There’s a lot that should and could be addressed in those questions, but consider where the psalmist takes us:

“Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” (v.3)

“For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” (v.5)

While I’m not opposed to devotional Christian music that contemplates the person and their journey. Yet, heart ache, personal battles and triumph, and a reflection on self will not always enable your joyful noise and singing.

The character of God is what you need. A vision, glimpse, and reminder of who He is what what He has done. We take our eyes off ourselves and we place them on our Good Triune God.

In Christ, He is our God, the One who holds His sheep.
He is good and His covenant promises and love do not end.

A Heartfelt Prayer:

Father, far too often I struggle to sing. My vision of you is eclipsed by a focus on self and circumstances. Help me to see beyond, help me to look up, help me to remember it’s your work and not mine that I cling to. Would you by your Spirit, enable in me a song, a joyful noise and a heart felt proclamation of your character. You are God, you are good, your promises in Christ will never fail because you love your people. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Whatever season you're in right now, God is your refuge.

The mundane.
The messy.
The confusing.
The beautiful.

He is present in all of it.

What feels overwhelming to you is never overwhelming to God. He isn't distant from the hard parts of your life, and you don't have to clean everything up before you come to Him.

Bring it all to Him.
The questions. The burdens. The joys. The uncertainty.

God is a refuge for every season, and He is faithful through them all. ❤️
