Please pray for the repose of the soul of Father Mark A. Moore, pastor of Christ the King University Parish and St. Paul Parish, Athens; Holy Cross Parish, Glouster; and Sacred Heart Parish, Pomeroy; who died June 3 at the age of 49.

The 4:00 pm Mass this Saturday afternoon will be a little longer than usual as Father Dave will use the extended form of the Pentecost Vigil Mass. Instead of one Reading from the Old Testament, there will be four, each followed by a Psalm and a special prayer as we unite ourselves with the Apostles and the Blessed Mother* as they prayed, and the Holy Spirit, that Jesus had promised, descends upon them in the form of “tongues of flame.”

*We are told in chapter 1 of the Acts of the Apostles, that the 11 Apostles were gathered together in the upper room. They had chosen Matthias to replace Judas Iscariot. We read that they prayed often together, with Mary, Jesus’ Mother, and some other women, and Jesus’ brothers, that we understand to be Jesus’ cousins, as Hebrew and Greek did not distinguish between brothers and cousins.

Let us join together in prayer this Saturday as the apostles did some two millennia ago. Let us celebrate the Holy Spirit coming upon those praying in the upper room, the same Holy Spirit that we received at our baptism, and the fullness of the Holy Spirit that we received at our Confirmation!
