The Reformation was not simply a moment in history. It was a call to renewal, a reminder that the church must continually listen for God's voice, examine its practices, and respond faithfully to the needs of the world.

More than 500 years later, that call continues.

We are a church always being reformed by God's grace. We are called to question what excludes, challenge what diminishes human dignity, and embrace the transforming love of Christ.

Reformation is not only about what we believe. It is about how we live our faith through compassion, justice, reconciliation, and service to our neighbors.

May God continue to reform our hearts, renew our communities, and inspire us to be instruments of grace in a changing world.

I’ve been thinking lately about how much energy we spend trying to prove we’re right.

We argue. We defend. We rehearse conversations in our heads. We come up with the perfect response, sometimes three days after the conversation ended.

And somewhere along the way, we forget to get curious. We forget that the person across from us has a whole story we haven’t heard. Fears we don’t know about. Wounds we can’t see. A lifetime of experiences that brought them to a conclusion different from ours.

And here’s something I’ve learned… You can understand someone without agreeing with them. You can listen without surrendering your values. You can make room for another person’s perspective without making yours any smaller.

In fact, sometimes the most powerful thing you can say in the middle of a disagreement is… Help me understand how you got there…. Because you genuinely want to know.

Imagine what our marriages, friendships, families, and communities would look like if we fought as hard to understand one another as we do to be understood.

Maybe we wouldn’t agree any more than we do now. But I suspect we’d love each other a whole lot better.

And perhaps that’s where peace begins. When we remember that the person in front of us matters more than the argument between us.

You don’t have to agree with someone to make them feel heard. And sometimes, being heard is where healing begins.
