Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden

Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden Serving God and the Dear Neighbor without distinction We are a Catholic congregation of vowed women who are dedicated to loving and serving God and neighbor.

Rooted in prayer, community living and the Gospel, we commit ourselves to the mission of unity and reconciliation, nonviolence and peacemaking through our presence, our prayers and our service. We live and work to be in union with God, with Earth, with one another, with the Church and with all whom we meet.

Earlier this spring, Sisters Jean Uzupis and Mary Parks, with Sister Barbara, were honored to accept the PIIN - Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network 2026 Champions of Justice Award on behalf of the congregation.

The congregation was recognized for its sponsorship of the weekly Prayer Vigils outside the ICE Headquarters in Pittsburgh, which began last summer in response to increasingly violent and hostile treatment of immigrants in our region.

While the Vigil is co-sponsored by Pax Christi Pennsylvania and Casa San José, it is organized by Sisters Barbara Finch and Janice Vanderneck, who attend faithfully each week, along with a diverse and growing contingent of people of all faiths and backgrounds.

❤️All are welcome to participate in this peaceful, prayer action that takes place weekly on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at 3000 Sidney Street, Pittsburgh, PA.

June is a month in which both Pride Month and the Catholic devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus are celebrated. At the heart of both is a reminder of the dignity of every person and the call to love one another with compassion, mercy, and respect.

We believe in unity, reconciliation, and inclusive love. We want every neighbor to feel welcome, valued, and loved. We hope you’ll take a minute to read this beautiful article and thoughtfully reflect on the sacred dignity of every person and God’s boundless love for all.

As Fr. James Martin, SJ writes:

“Maybe the best way to think about Pride Month is to imagine what you would say to a young person who finally summoned up the courage to tell you that they are LGBTQ. You know that God created them. You know that God loves them. And you know that God wants them to be who they are. So, you would probably say, ‘I am so proud of you for being able to say that.’ That’s the kind of pride we celebrate this month, and that Catholics worldwide can celebrate.”
