As part of our Appalachia Service Project Sunday, Barry Mangione shared this powerful performance of “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive,” written and originally recorded by Darrell Scott.

The song paints a vivid picture of life in Appalachia—the beauty of the mountains, but also the hardship and struggle that have shaped generations of families there.

After another week serving with Appalachia Service Project, it was a meaningful way to reflect on the people, places, and stories behind the work we do.
