It Is Well With My Soul

What does it mean to truly say, “It is well with my soul”?

It doesn’t mean life is always peaceful, easy, or understandable. It means our peace is found in Jesus—not our circumstances. When we surrender our anxiety, trust God with what we cannot understand, and fix our eyes on the promise of eternity, we can have a peace the world cannot give.

Our circumstances may change. Our storms may come. But Christ remains faithful.

Because of Jesus, we can say—even here, even now—
It is well with my soul.

Tell Ourselves the Truth

Sometimes the person we need to tell the truth to most is ourselves.

Psalm 42 gives us a beautiful picture of David speaking directly to his own soul:

“Why are you in despair, my soul?”

He acknowledged what he was feeling, but he didn't allow his feelings to have the final word.

What we feel is real—but what we feel doesn't get to define what is true.

Your emotions matter. Your feelings matter. But they are not the ultimate authority over your identity, your future, or your relationship with God.

Before we can lead others into truth and freedom, we have to learn to live there ourselves.

So when the thoughts come, pause and ask:

“Does this agree with what Jesus says is true?”

Because sometimes faith looks like reminding your own soul:

This is what I feel… but this is what I know to be true.

And what Jesus says is true gets the final word.

Truth Has a Name

Truth isn't just an idea, a feeling, or a perspective.

Truth has a name: Jesus.

Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” And He later declared, “If the Son sets you free, you really will be free.” — John 8:32, 36

The pathway is simple:

Through the Word, we know the Truth.
Through the Truth, we know the Son.
Through the Son, we are set free.

The question isn't simply, “Is this what I believe?”

The better question is:

“Does this agree with Jesus?”

If it doesn’t agree with Jesus, it doesn’t get my agreement.

Freedom begins where agreement with lies ends, and transformation grows where agreement with Jesus begins.
