Worship for Sunday, May 31, 2026
Scripture: Matthew 28:16-20

Dear Friends,
"Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" — church people have said these words more times than they can count in their lives. Many people who have not been part of a church recognize these words as well. You will find them in our church's liturgy and worship; the United Methodist Church, like almost every other Christian denomination, believes in the doctrine of the Trinity. The words might be familiar, and we might have been saying them for a very long time, but explaining and understanding the Trinity continue to challenge Christians and others.

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, and I invite you to consider God as God, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jot each one down. (Sometimes the Trinity is also described as Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer, and in other ways.) How does each one mean something different to you? How have you experienced each one? How has each one acted in the life of the church? Trinity Sunday is not a much-celebrated or well-loved special day in the life of the church, but it calls us to deeper and fuller understanding of God. What might be revealed to us this year?

You are invited to join in Worship on Trinity Sunday and every Sunday at 10:00 am. Let us worship God together!

Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Michelle

Worship for Sunday, May 24, 2026
Scripture: Acts 2:1-21

Dear Friends,

Pentecost, which falls this year on May 24, has often been called "the birthday of the Church". We note that this doesn't mean the beginning of so many things that we associate with "church". This "birthday" does not celebrate purchase of land, or completion of buildings, or even organization of congregations or the first worship services. The birth of the church was marked by the giving of the Holy Spirit to the disciples, and then their going out and sharing the Gospel in a multitude of languages. God's church is marked by sharing Jesus' message through the Holy Spirit with all of God's people.

On Pentecost we gather, not only to commemorate that day long ago, but to recognize and connect again with the Holy Spirit in our lives and as a church. How will we get into action again? How will we make use of this new year? You are invited to wear red to Worship this Sunday symbolize the passion and power of the Holy Spirit for the life and mission of our church.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday just before 10:00 AM and worshipping together.
Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Michelle

Worship for Sunday, May 17, 2026
Scripture: Acts 1:1-11, Luke 24: 44-53

Dear Friends,
This Sunday the Scripture lessons are about Jesus’ ascension into heaven. Both Acts 1:1-11 and Luke 24:44-53 describe Jesus being carried up or lifted up into heaven. We still relate to that ancient worldview that God is "up" — but is that what we really believe? We have seen through space travel, and even our own airplane travel on the other side of the clouds, that there is no visible heaven there. Also, we believe that God is everywhere, not just at church or in beautiful, quiet places (and we believe that God is "every time", not just on Sunday mornings or in times of trouble). So where else might you point when you think about where Jesus is, and why?

Come and share your answer as we gather for Worship on Sunday at 10:00 AM. Everyone is welcome!
Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Michelle
