As a deacon in Rome, St. Lawrence cared for the poor and faithfully administered the Churchโ€™s resources. When ordered to surrender the Churchโ€™s treasures, he presented the poor, proclaiming that they were her true treasure. He remained faithful to Christ even unto martyrdom.

May his prayers give us courage to serve those in need, recognize the dignity of every person, and remain faithful to Christ in every trial.

We often pass fields of wheat without giving them a second thought.

Yet from this ordinary grain comes the bread that, through God's grace, becomes food for eternal life.

The sacraments remind us that God does not set creation aside. He receives the ordinary gifts of the earth and transforms them into extraordinary signs of His love.

This year, our Faith Formation programs will journey together through โ€œThe Sacraments,โ€ discovering how Christ continues to meet us through the ordinary things He has chosen.

Today we joyfully celebrate the ordination anniversaries of ๐ƒ๐ž๐š๐œ๐จ๐ง ๐Ž๐ฐ๐ž๐ง ๐†๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ง, ordained August 9, 2009, and ๐ƒ๐ž๐š๐œ๐จ๐ง ๐“๐ข๐ฆ ๐Œ๐ข๐ค๐š, ordained August 9, 2020.

We are grateful not only for the ministry they share, but for the particular gifts each of them brings to the life of our parish.

Through Deacon Owenโ€™s love for sacred music, his service in the liturgy, and the many ways he has helped open our parish to the wider community, he reminds us that beauty can welcome hearts and quietly proclaim the Gospel.

Through Deacon Timโ€™s work with young people, adults, and families, he has walked beside many in our community as they have asked questions, grown in faith, and learned to follow Christ more closely.

At the altar, in the proclamation of the Word, and in the countless moments of service that happen beyond our sight, both have given themselves generously to Christ and to His people.

Today, we thank God for calling them, for sustaining them in their vocation, and for allowing our parish to be blessed by their โ€œyes.โ€

Born Edith Stein, St. Teresa Benedicta was a brilliant philosopher whose search for truth led her to Christ and eventually to the Carmelite life. Martyred at Auschwitz, she bore courageous witness to the truth she had discovered: that those who seek truth are ultimately seeking God.

May her prayers give us courage to seek the truth, follow Christ faithfully, and embrace the Cross with love.
