🍺 House of Mercy Brewery Group is meeting tonight!
Join us at Highland Brewing Co. — 12 Old Charlotte Hwy — from 4:30 until 7ish. It’s low-key, it’s fun, and it’s a great spot to get to know the House of Mercy community. Curious about who we are? Bring a friend and come find out. No agenda, just good people and good beer. 🌿

Annie on the beat. 🎤 You know her from the passing of the peace — now she’s got a mic and even better questions.

What if sin isn’t really about breaking rules?

Chad unpacks the oldest lie ever told — the one whispered in the garden: “You’re not like God.”

But here’s the thing. We are. We’re made in the image of the divine, carrying that likeness from the very beginning. The trouble starts when we believe the lie and then spend our lives trying to become something we already are — just without God in the picture.

That’s where sin is born. Not in rebellion, but in forgetting.

You’ve been singing along to his song without even knowing it. Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide is joining us tomorrow, live. He’s the voice behind Find Love — a song that has opened our gatherings — and one of the most spiritually resonant musicians we know, which is funny because he’ll tell you he’s a secular Jew. We think you’ll feel it. Hope to see you there.

Happy birthday to our own Lauren, and what a way to mark a year than by preaching on grace that refuses to leave anyone out. Yesterday Lauren brought us to the story of Hagar: a woman pushed to the margins, seen and met by God in the wilderness. She paired it with the Sanskrit blessing Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu — “May all beings everywhere be happy and free” — as a reminder that the impulse toward universal flourishing isn’t foreign to our faith. It’s the heartbeat of it.

Lauren Fortuna is preaching for us again this Sunday! Lauren set out to be a professional actor, director, and writer — and spent almost fifteen years doing just that — but learned along the way that ritual done right offers all the immediacy, beauty, and pathos of great theater, but with a lot fewer jazz hands. We love having her. See you tomorrow! 🙌
