Watchman Fellowship

Watchman Fellowship An evangelical Christian apologetics ministry focused on interfaith evangelism and discernment However, we are in no way affiliated with them.

Watchman Fellowship is an independent Christian research and apologetics ministry focusing on new religious movements, cults, the occult and the New Age. David Henke founded Watchman Fellowship in Columbus, Georgia in 1979. Today, Watchman Fellowship has grown to several offices in the United States. Watchman Fellowship serves the Christian and secular community as a resource for education, counse

ling, and non-coercive intervention and evangelism training. We accomplish these tasks through our church presentations, personal counseling, this website, and other activities. We have served almost every denomination including Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopal, Assemblies of God, Church of God, Lutheran, Nazarene, non-denominational, etc., as well as schools, law enforcement agencies, and civic groups. Concerning a person’s right to choose, we believe that a real choice is one based on access to all the information, and understanding both or all sides. The counterfeit groups typically try to block their members and the public from having access to this information. We have found that most cults will use deception, control, cover up, and dishonesty with their own members and the people they are trying to convert. This deception includes some or all of the following: the group’s history, false prophesy, false scholarship, a distortion of true church history and doctrine, and destructive practices of the group. Our name, Watchman Fellowship, is often confused with the Watchtower Society title used by the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Our name is taken from the Old Testament book of the Bible, Ezekiel.

“Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth, and give them warning from Me.” (Ezekiel 33:7)

As Christians, we do believe that “we are our brother’s keeper.” Like the watchman on the wall (Ezekiel 3:17), we have the responsibility to sound a warning against the deception and destructive spiritual abuse practiced by counterfeit groups. In sounding such warning Watchman Fellowship also has a principled commitment to accuracy.

Fun an informative read, a short prose poem called ”The Fight for Mansoul” is a fifth-century AD tale written by Prudentius depicting the Virtues fighting the Vices. In the battles, both the Virtues and Vices are portrayed as soldiers on a battlefield.

What do Latter-day Saints mean by the burning in the bosom? We discuss this and other aspects of LDS theology with Dr. Robert M. Bowman, Jr. this week on Apologetics Profile.

Doctrine and Covenants section 9, verse 8 are supposedly the words of the Lord, given through Joseph Smith to Oliver Cowdery in 1829. "But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall...

There are many on social media who profess to be followers of Christ and yet mock and sarcastically deride Muslims, Mormons, Atheists, and other groups.

Mocking is easy, requires little thought, and draws a lot of attention for online content creators. But it is antithetical to 1 Peter 3:15 and not one of the fruits of the Spirit.

Be careful not to imbibe a mocking or derisive spirt toward others. Social media conditions and tempts us to do it, but as followers of Christ, it simply should not be named among us.

James 3:1-2 (ESV)

"Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.

If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.

How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.

For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.

From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water."
