Beginning in Luke 12:54, Jesus begins a teaching to the crowds concerning the necessity and urgency of believing in him. This same necessity and urgency remains for each person today. The evidence for who Jesus is, still demands a response. No man or woman is guaranteed decades or a long life to decide. There is an urgency, before it is too late, to believing and following Jesus.

In Luke 12, Jesus has taught his disciples about his second coming and their responsibilities and allegiance to him. Beginning in verse 49, Jesus teaches that he didn't come to bring peace but division. This seems counter to Jesus' offer of peace with God when one believes in him. We will examine the division that happens when someone believes in Jesus. Many times others will withdraw or sharply disagree with the believers' new life in Christ. Jesus is the dividing line between Christians and non Christians.

In Luke 12:41-48, we address the second part of the accountability that will take place when Jesus returns. The emphasis in these verses is the accountability of spiritual leaders to the Lord. The Lord requires them to be faithful in the area of leadership he has placed them. In this passage there is also a specific mention to bible teaching and the proper use of power. The local church should expect faithfulness out of her spiritual leaders, but their ultimate accountability is to Jesus himself.

Tonight will be the second week of our study in 1 Peter. As we continue in chapter one, Peter gives us eternal reasons why we can have joy when life is hard.

In Luke 12, Jesus has challenged those who want to follow him with the priorities of this life. He has shown that living for money and possessions leads to perishing without God. He has also challenged disciples to not worry about the needs of this life but to live and love his kingdom. God knows every need you have and will provide.
In this week's passage, Luke 12:35-40, Jesus reminds his followers that they are ultimately accountable to God, and that at the coming of Christ, he should find us looking for and prepared to welcome him. The Lord will reward our faithfulness.

JESUS THE CENTER OF IT ALL —•LISTEN TO HIM”• —

“And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.

And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here.

If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

—He was still speaking

when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; LISTEN TO HIM.”

When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” And when they lifted up their eyes, THEY SAW NO ONE BUT JESUS ONLY.”
‭‭
—Metthew 17:1-8 evs

The Father interrupted Peter to say: JESUS IS THE CENTER FOCUS OF THE WHOLE REVELATION OF GOD!

He is the focus of the law (represented by Moses) He is the center of the Prophets (represented by Elijah) He is the focus of the whole Bible. So, God the Father says “listen to him”

We will do good, very good if we decide today to give our undivided attention to the one The Father has declared as the focal and center point of the history of humanity.

Fix your eyes and attention in Jesus
Read about Him
Learn about Him
LISTEN TO HIM AND TO HIM ONLY.

I love the las part of the passage, fear came to the disciples, they fell, then the majestic Jesus came and say “fear not” and when they lifted their eyes, “they saw no one but JESUS only.”

Let Jesus be the only thing your espiritual eyes can see through His Word the rest of the week. Let Him satisfy you with his presence.

Amen!
