God has given each one of us a task: to deliver His Word to people. The Holy Spirit will give us the right words at the right times. Sometimes, it's a stern word of Law, which convicts. Other times, it's a merciful word of grace, which heals. God's Word is a great edifying gift, and we can share it with others. (Ezekiel 33:7)

This text (II Samuel 7:22) is a profound prayer. David prayed it, and we can too. Why would we tell God how magnificent, powerful, majestic, and awesome He is? Doesn't He know that already? Yes, of course He knows it, but it is a blessing to us to proclaim it to Him: a pure form of worship.

The prophet Jeremiah offers some fascinating phrases: We "eat" God's Word — His written Word, the Scriptures, is spiritual food for us; His living Word, Jesus, is mysteriously present in bread and wine — and the result of this amazingly nourishment is joy and delight, and then we are identified by His name. Love is living and acting according to God's commandments. God commands that we care for our neighbor. So God's commandments are love, and He commands us to love.

The church is a bunch of flawed and broken people: we're not perfect, and, yes, we sin. Jesus gathers us around Himself, and He does great things in our midst, despite our sinful nature. Jesus is majestic, holy, and perfect. It's better to keep our eyes on His almighty holiness than on our imperfections.

We want your extra zucchini, tomatoes, and other veggies! Gardens for Growth returns August 9th and will continue every Sunday through mid-September. If you have extra vegetables this year, please bring any surplus to St. Luke for others to purchase and enjoy. The produce will be available for anyone to purchase for a free will donation. Proceeds will be applied to St. Luke’s mortgage payment.

You can participate in several ways.

1. Bring in any of your extra produce.

2. If you enjoy the fresh produce and like chatting with our St. Luke friends, we could use your help at the tables, before and after the first or second service. Stop by the tables and let us know when you can help; date and time (1st or 2nd service). Help is easy- mainly setting up and taking down the tables and greeting those who stop by to donate or shop.

3. Pick up some healthy food and make a donation.

St. Luke is having our annual Fall Picnic on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. We will meet at Marsh View Meadows Park (300 E. Textile Rd., Saline MI 48176) under the covered pavilion. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. We are asking each family to bring a dish to pass based on last name:

Pasta Salad A-F
Potato Salad G-L
Dessert M-R
Other Side Dish S-Z

Bring chairs or a blanket and sunscreen. There will be fun and games for you to enjoy. Come join your St. Luke family for this great event!
